Carl John Zollman was born on November 26, 1931 in Phillipsburg, Kansas to Karl Zollmann and Barbara Elizabeth Walkmann Zollmann. He was baptized and received full membership in the Christian faith at the Lutheran Church in Stuttgart, Kansas. Carl married Delores Mae Nyland July 15, 1952 at the Reformed Church in Prairie View, Kansas, and to this union three daughters were born: Peggy, Connie, and Carla.
Carl attended Phillips County Public Schools where he graduated in the year 1949. He farmed during high school to help his dad. During High School, he played football and met his future wife, Delores, at a carnival. After their marriage, they made their home in rural Phillips County. He continued to work on the farm and eventually accepted a position with the United States Department of Agriculture (ASCS). He began as a clerk in the soil conservation service in October, 1956. He transferred to the Agricultural Stabilization Conservation and Service where he served in different positions. He retired as director from the ASCS office when he reached the age of 55 and 30 years of service. He worked part time for Rain and Hail Insurance for twelve years. He is also remembered for giving a helping hand to neighbors combining wheat during the harvest season.
Carl was an active member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Stuttgart where he served in several positions. He served on the Legacy Committee for Phillipsburg County Economic Development.
Carl and Delores enjoyed taking dance classes and going to dances with friends. They enjoyed traveling and playing cards with friends and family. Carl never met a stranger and enjoyed talking to everyone he met. He is remembered by family and friends for giving great advice and the best hugs.
Carl is survived by his three daughters Peggy (Howard) King of Phillipsburg, Kansas, Connie (Steve) Henderson of Ankeny, Iowa, Carla (Jim) Maneth of Great Bend, Kansas, seven grandchildren; Hadley (Abby) Henderson of Webster City, Iowa, Justin (Erin) King of Overland Park, Kansas, Stephenie (Chris) Johnson of Moorhead, Iowa, Aaron (Jenna) Andrews of Great Bend, Kansas, Jordan (Vanessa Mora - fiancé) King of Austin, Texas, Nathan (Tracey) Andrews of Ellis, Kansas, and Trevor (Michel) Maneth of Gardner, Kansas; fourteen great grandchildren Collin Bailey, Caleb King, Grayson Henderson, Landon Johnson, Nora Andrews, Everett Henderson, Logan King, Lydiah Johnson, Pyper Maneth, Ella King, Ryker Maneth, Presley Henderson, Carter Andrews, and Creed Andrews. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Larry Nyland and wife, Sharon, and sister-in-law Wanda Schneider, and husband Wayne. There are several nieces and nephews also surviving. He was preceded in death by his wife, Delores, father and mother; Karl and Elizabeth (Barbara) Zollman, father and mother-in-law; Ray and Angeline Nyland, sister and brother-in-law; Rex and Martha Kellogg.
Funeral services will be 4:00 p.m. Saturday, May 18, 2024 in the Emmanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Stuttgart, with Pastor Lee Bennight officiating. Burial will follow in the Emmanuel Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery, Stuttgart.
Mr. Zollman will lie in state from noon until 9 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg.
