Marvin Russell “Rusty” Selby, 63, of Denver, CO passed away June 15, 2022. Rusty was born in Emporia, KS, on September 14, 1958, to Marvin Selby and Doris (Hearn) Selby. The Selby family moved to Colby, KS in 1964, where Rusty was raised until graduating from Colby High School in 1977.
After high school, Rusty attended Kansas State University, where
he played in the marching band. After leaving KSU, Rusty moved to
Dallas, TX, before settling for many years in Denver, CO. He also lived
for several years in Goodland, KS before returning to Denver. During
that time, he earned his Associate’s degree from Colby Community
College.
Rusty was well known for his entrepreneurial spirit. He had many small
businesses over the years, starting with paper routes, owning his own
ice cream delivery business, the Yellow YumYum, and running a firework
stand in high school. After moving to Denver, he held positions in
accounting and computers for a travel agency. Rusty was an incredibly
kind man with a great sense of humor and an infectious laugh. He was
also renowned in his family for his intelligence and mechanical
abilities. Rusty also loved dogs and enjoyed raising several beautiful
Gordon Setters and Basset Hounds.
Rusty was preceded in death by his mother, Doris Hearn Selby, and brother-in-law, Brad Fredrickson.
Rusty is survived by his father and stepmother, Marvin and Bonnie Selby,
of Linn Creek, MO; sisters, Gwyn Selby, of Dallas, TX, Gayle
Fredrickson, of Kansas City, KS; and Glenda Coyle and her husband Steve,
of Branson West, MO; nephew Cole Fredrickson; nieces, Carissa Sanders,
Samantha Jones, and Elizabeth Jones; and 9 great nephews and nieces.
A graveside service will be held at the Beulah Cemetery in Colby, KS on
August 6, 2022, at 10:00am.
