Ronald D. Crook, 85, died on Wednesday, December 14, 2022, at Founders
Comfort Care Home in Wichita, Kansas. He was born on July 16, 1937, in
La Crosse, Kansas, the son of Gerald Dean & Margie A. (Renner) Crook.
He married Linda Long on December 26, 1960, in Lamar, Colorado. He
later married Carole A. Stewart on April 7, 1984, in Selkirk, Kansas.
She died on February 16, 2001.
Ron graduated from Garden City High School with the Class of 1955 and
received his Associates Degree from Garden City Community College in
1957. He worked at a junkyard, ice plant and Anthony’s for three years
before moving to Lamar, Colorado to be the manager of the J.C. Penny’s
Store. After one year, he moved back to Garden City, Kansas and worked
at the Family Booterie for 24 years. In 1978 he bought Renick Drug
Store and turned it into Crook’s Shoe Store, which he operated until
retiring. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Garden City
Downtown Vision, active in the Garden City Area Chamber of Commerce and
his 10:00 AM and 3:00 PM Coffee Clubs. He enjoyed hunting and fishing,
past member of Southwest Kansas Sports Car Club of America and loved
watching NASCAR.
He is survived by his Daughter - Teri Hensen of Castle Rock, Colorado,
Son – Jim & Dawn Crook of Montrose, Colorado, Son – Monte &
Allison Stewart of Belle Plaine, Daughter – Cheryl & Steve Kucharik
of Scott City, Sister – Rhonda & Randy Magnison of Holton, Kansas, 7
Grandchildren and 7 Great-Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by
his Parents, Wife, Brother – Jay Crook and 2 Sisters – Mary Lou Jackson
and Vivian Huelskamp.
Funeral Service will be at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, December 28, 2022, at
Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City. Burial will follow at Valley View
Cemetery in Garden City, Kansas.
Memorials are suggested to either Friends Of Lee Richardson Zoo or Rheumatology Research Foundation in care of Garnand Funeral Home.
