Mark Steven Schmidt, 67, Solomon, Kansas, passed away Sunday, September 3, 2023, at Salina Regional Health Center, Salina, Kansas.
Mark was born February 6, 1956, in La Crosse, Kansas, the son of Cyril Patrick and Marie Bessie (Jira) Schmidt.
He was a resident of Solomon, Kansas, for 19 years, moving from Colby, Kansas.
A 1974 graduate of La Crosse High School, La Crosse, Kansas, he graduated from Fort Hays State University, Hays, Kansas, with a bachelor of science degree in physical education. He then began a career in conservation science which spanned 39+ years and ended with him as a district conservationist in Abilene, Kansas, retiring in 2014.
On July 14, 1984, he married Eilene Casey at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, La Crosse, Kansas.
Throughout Mark’s life, he enjoyed playing and watching sports, fishing, hunting, and golfing. He enjoyed playing with all of his nephews and nieces.
Survivors include his wife, Eilene Schmidt, Solomon, Kansas; four brothers, Gary Schmidt (Phyllis), La Crosse, Kansas, Joe Schmidt (Bernadette), Wamego, Kansas, John Schmidt (Suzanne), Hoisington, Kansas, and Richard Schmidt, La Crosse, Kansas; one sister, Mary Beth Wagner, Rush Center, Kansas; many nephews and nieces; and many close and lifelong friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Michael Schmidt, and Galen Schmidt; and two sisters, Judy Addams, and Debra Hollis.
The family has chosen cremation. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers or plants, Eilene requests memorials to the American Kidney Fund or American Liver Foundation.
