Dorothy June Markham, age 99, was born in Bloom Township to Louis and Bernice (Powers) Crist and passed away Wednesday June 5, 2024 at Parkview Care Center.
Dorothy attended country school through the 8th grade then graduated from Osborne High School class of 1943. During her high school years Dorothy rented a room either at a boarding house or above one of the stores on main street as it was too far for her to travel home to the farm after school each day. As her younger siblings were ready to enter high school they would share their rooms. Dorothy lived in Osborne County her entire life and worked at various part time jobs during and after high school including Duckwalls and the Blair Theater.
Dorothy was united in marriage to James Markham on April 16, 1950. At that time Dorothy was working at the courthouse. Jim served in the Army during the Korean war and was stationed at Fort Holabird in Baltimore MD. Dorothy was able to join him for the duration of his stay where they enjoyed many weekend trips to Washington DC and made lifetime friends.
Later in life Dorothy worked as bookkeeper for Markham Chevrolet. After retiring Dorothy had many interests which included craft work, golf, exercise group, United Methodist Women, Methodist Women's Circle and Upsilon Tau Delta Sorority. Dorothy held several offices with the United Methodist Church and also enjoyed working at The Market Place and vacations to Colorado. Her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her family.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter Marcie Covey (Larry) of Fort Dodge, IA; grandson Brett Covey(Charity) and granddaughter Erica Keramati (Reza) all of Parkville, MO; 2 beloved great grandsons Declan Covey and Cyrus Keramati; and 4 nieces and 2 nephews.
