Margaret Mae Duncan

Beloved wife, mother, and grandmother Margaret Mae Duncan passed into glory on December 12, 2023. Margaret was 85 years old when she went to Heaven. She was a resident of High Plains Retirement Village, Lakin, KS.

Margaret was born in Decatur Arkansas on September 25, 1938, to Ray and Ethel Hawkins. Margaret is survived by her sister Beulah Buhrmann of Hutchinson Ks, and brother David Hawkins of Stinnett, Texas. The Hawkins family left Arkansas and moved to Hugoton Ks in 1949. Margaret attended Hugoton middle school and high school where she joined the 4-H Club. She was assigned to build the 4- H booth for the county fair with a young man named Robert Duncan. They fell in love and were later married in Hugoton by Lacy Lee on December 19, 1954. She is survived by her husband Robert Duncan of Lakin, KS. Robert and Margaret owned and operated Duncan Lockers. Margaret was their bookkeeper and took part in the processing as well.

In 1957, Margaret was baptized into Christ at the Bethel Church of Christ north of Stafford KS. She enjoyed being a Sunday school teacher as well as teaching women’s Bible studies at the Church of Christ in Lakin, KS for many years. Margaret was a long-time volunteer and board member of the Lakin Budget Shop. Her hobbies included doll collecting, gardening, drawing, reading, and embroidery. She especially enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. Traveling, camping, playing cards, and fishing were among her favorite family and friend activities. She and Robert loved hosting dinners and Holiday parties for church family, family, and friends.

Margaret is survived by her 5 children Teresa O’Leary of Raleigh, NC, Daniel Duncan of Phoenix, AZ, Robin Katen, of Salina, OK, Monte Duncan of Wamego, KS, and Lisa Neeley of Dighton, KS. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandson.

Memorial service for Margaret will be held at Lakin Church of Christ on Thursday, Dec. 21st at 10:30 am. Burial will follow at the Lakin Cemetery in Lakin, Kansas.
