Shelly Lynn VanWinkle

Shelly Lynn VanWinkle, 58, passed away April 20, 2023, at her home in Newton, Kan.. She was born October 9, 1964, in Wichita, Kan., to Conrad & Wanda (Vickery) Richey. She married William VanWinkle April 24, 1999, in Wichita, Kan. 

Shelly moved to Newton in 2016, from Great Bend, Kan. She was the scale master for the Barton County Landfill then Harvey County Landfill. Shelly had many other certifications as well, like her CDL. She loved getting her nails done and attending family get togethers.

Survivors include, her husband, William “Kent” VanWinkle of the home; two sons, Kevin Richey and wife, Sarah of Wichita, Kan., and Nicholas Thomas of Mount Pleasant, Iowa; stepdaughter, Darline VanWinkle of Springfield, Mo.; four grandchildren, Kaitlynn and Konnor Richey, Ivy Peterson, and Arianna Jackson; two brothers, Kenny Richey and wife, Janet and Brian Richey and wife, Chris, all of Wichita, Kan.; and three sisters, Evelyn Cheek and husband, Bill, Linda Diggs and husband, Bill, and Connie Wiss, all of Wichita, Kan.

She was preceded in death by a son, Stephen Thomas; stepdaughter, Shawnda VanWinkle; her parents; two brothers, Gerald and Darrell Richey; and a brother-in-law, Doug Wiss.

Visitation will be held from Noon to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 26, 2023, at Bryant Funeral Home, with family to receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, April 27, 2023, at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend, with Pastor Larry Schumacher presiding. Interment will be in the Hillcrest Memorial Park in Great Bend.

In lieu of flowers, memorials have been designated to the Shelly VanWinkle Expense Fund or the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
