Betty Jo (Taylor) Sells

Betty Jo (Taylor) Sells passed away on Friday, May 26, 2023, in the Lyons Regional Hospital in Lyons at age 94. She was born on Oct. 1, 1928, to George V. and Ora Grace (Engelbert) Taylor in Chase, Kan.

Betty worked for Farmland Industry at the Lyons Cooperative starting as a bookkeeper and finally becoming the manager. She was very proud to be the first women manager for Farmland Industry. After retiring, Denver and Betty enjoyed camping and fishing at Wilson Lake. They also enjoyed taking care of their honeybee hive and selling Watkins products. She was an avid gambler and was always at a casino whenever she could be.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Denver C. Sells; and daughter, Sylvia Ann Whitis.

She is survived by her sons, Dennis R. Sells (Maryann) of Moore, Okla., and E. David Sells (Becky) of Wilson; sister Maxine Sappenfield; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

A graveside celebration of Betty’s life will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 8 at the Lyons City Cemetery in Lyons.
