Former Phillips County resident James M. Smith passed away at his 
home in Littleton, Colorado, on Tuesday, September 27, 2022, at the age of
 74.

He was born June 14, 1948, in Holdrege, NE the son of Wayne and Luella
 (Russell) Smith. &nbsp;He was a Phillipsburg High School graduate and served
 in the United States Army.

James is survived by his two sons: Jamie Smith of Salina, Kansas and 
Chris Woerpel of Thornton, CO; brother Russell Smith of Phillipsburg; 
sisters: Marlene Peters and husband Forrest of Phillipsburg, Jeanne 
Gantz of Beloit, Mary Lasiter and husband Jim of Blairsburg, IA, and 
Linda Schurz of Phillipsburg; 8 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; and 
numerous nieces and nephews.

Cremation is planned.&nbsp; A memorial service will be at a later date.
