Douglas Paul Davis, age 58, of Eaton County, Lansing, Michigan, passed peacefully on December 22, 2023, in Ulysses, Kansas. Doug was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan, on November 3, 1965, the son of Don and Carlene (Creyts) Davis. He was a member of the Future Farmers of America and a past member of the Michigan Draft Horse Breeders Association. Doug pursued several occupations including mechanics, heavy equipment operator, equine nutrition, and draft horse related fields. A highlight of his draft horse career was driving an eight up of Belgians at the Live Oak Invitational in Ocala, Florida.
Doug found his true passion, over the road livestock hauling. Doug also enjoyed helping his friends with farm work, making maple syrup, and shooting the “bull”. He was most recently employed by Schrader Livestock of Tekonsha, Michigan.
Doug had a dedicated run from Michigan to Ulysses, Kansas, weekly. Ulysses was his second home, he loved it out there. We are thankful for the staff at the Corporate East Hotel in Ulysses for the kindness they showed Doug over the years. Doug was proud to be a “Bull Hauler” and was a great story teller!
Doug is survived by his parents, Don and Carlene Davis of Lansing, Michigan; sisters, Lori (Rodney) Pillars of Martin, Michigan, and Mary (Tim) Stoll of Grand Ledge, Michigan; his dearly loved nephews, Austin and Blake Pillars, and Justin and Dylan Stoll; as well as many cherished friends across the country.Special thanks to Schrader Livestock, Clint Davis, the staff at Corporate East Hotel, Ulysses Police Department, and Garnand Funeral Home for your support of Doug’s family during this difficult time.
Per Doug’s request, cremation has taken place.
