Garden City- William John “Bill” Hendricks, 91, died on Saturday, January 27, 2024 at Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City. He was born on October 6, 1932 in his Grandparents farmhouse outside of Wakita, Oklahoma the son of Walter Jennings & Anna Blanche (Tuttle) Hendricks. He married Joan Banuelos on July 13, 1957 at Wichita.
Bill’s father was a school administrator and he went to seven different schools in South Central Kansas and North Central Oklahoma before graduating from Driftwood, Oklahoma High School in 1950. He went to college in Alva, Oklahoma for a semister before enlisting in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict where he served on a Sea Bearing Tug fleet. After his discharge he moved to Wichita and later to St Louis to worked for Burroughs Office Equipment. In 1962 he moved to Garden City to work in sales and service for Bell & Howell Micro Film and Microfiche where he had a territory of Western Kansas, Eastern Colorado and the Oklahoma Panhandle. He was the Culligan Man in Garden City for a short time before moving to Topeka and then to Denver to get back in the Micro Film and Microfiche business. In 1998 He returned to Garden City and owned and operated a business enterprise. He was a member of St Mary Catholic Church of Garden City. Bill enjoyed sports, he attended the Colorado Rockies opening day for a number of years, also rooting for the Denver Broncos and Oklahoma Sooners. He supported Garden City Community College sports, especially the Women’s Softball Program.
He is survived by his Daughter- Kim Hendricks of Garden City and Brother- Floyd Dean Hendricks of Lucas, Texas. He is preceded in death by his Parents, Brother- Judd Hendricks and 4 Sisters- Geraldine Wesley, Wilma Jean Grayson, Belva Engel and Voriece Frymyer.
Vigil/Wake Service will be at 7:30 PM Thursday and Funeral Mass will be at 12:00 PM Friday both at St Mary Catholic Church with Rev Jacob Schneider & Rev Pascal Klein as Celebrants. Friends may call from Noon to 6:00 PM Thursday at Garnand Funeral Home.
