Garden City- Diep Hong Vo, 84, died on Monday, February 19, 2024 at St Catherine Hospital in Garden City. He was born on August 29, 1939 at Saigon, Viet Nam the son of Phi Van Vo He married Van Thi Tran in Viet Nam.Mr Vo attended high school and college in Viet Nam. He was a high ranking officer in the South Viet Nam Army and worked with the CIA until the war ended in 1975. He was captured by the communists and spent 13 ½ years as a POW until 1987. Upon his release he and his family were eligible for the United States HO Program thru his CIA work and they were relocated to Garden City. He worked in the Processing Department at Tyson until retiring when he was 80. He was Baptized in the Buddhist Temple and his Buddhist name as Peter Vo. He also attended the Vietnamese catholic services. His special interest was helping his people by serving as a translator and doing hospital and homebound visits for over 30 years.
He is survived by his Wife- Van Thi Tran, Daughter- Hanh Thi Hong Vo of Westminster, California, Son- Phuong Hong Vo of Garden City, 1 Sister and 4 Grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his Father and 5 Brothers and Sisters.
Catholic Funeral Service will be at 10:30 Saturday at Garnand Funeral Home. Viet Nam and American Military Honors will follow the service. Cremation will follow under Catholic customs.
