Betty Jo Oberhelman, age 72, died on April 23, 2024, at Cedar Village Care Center, Ness City. She was born on May 2, 1951, in LaCrosse, Kansas, the daughter of Ronald and Josephine (Dechant) Robinson.
Betty was a member of the Ness City Methodist Church and was the owner of Betty’s Beauty Nook which she operated until her health would not allow. While her children and nephews were in school, she supported them in all of their activities. When the grandchildren came along her attention turned toward them and they became her pride and joy. One picture of each grandchild was not enough for Betty but a photo for every year had to be on display.
On September 18, 1971, she married Gail Oberhelman in Ness City. Together they raised their two children and two nephews in their home in Ness City. He proceeded her in death on December 22, 2022.
Betty is survived by her children, Cetra Horton and her husband, Curtis, of Fort Scott and Chad Oberhelman and his wife, Kristina, of McCracken; two nephews that she and Gail helped raise, Erik Ellis and his wife, Laurel, of LaCrosse and Charlie Ellis of Fort Sill, OK; nine grandchildren, with one on the way; and one great grandchild; and two sisters, Wanda Roehl and her husband, Steve, of Wichita and Nancy Pink of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Gail, and her siblings, Eddie, Bud, and John Robinson, Pam Ellis, and Rhonda Robinson.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2024, 10:00 a.m. at the Ness City Methodist Church followed by burial in the Ness City Cemetery. Viewing will be held at Fitzgerald Funeral home on Friday, April 26, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the family present from 6-8 p.m.
