Darlene Rose Zetko, 88, La Crosse, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas.
Darlene was born March 28, 1935, in Minatare, Nebraska, the daughter of Jacob and Mary (Schnell) Britthouer. She was a resident of Rush County, Kansas, since 1979, moving there from Wichita, Kansas. A 1954 graduate of Scottsbluff High School, Scottsbluff, Nebraska, she was the transportation manager for USD #395, La Crosse, Kansas, for 20 years before her retirement. While living in Wichita, Kansas, Darlene was employed by Beech Aircraft Company for 15+ years in the factory painting airplanes.
Darlene was an exceptional seamstress, and loved to cook and crochet.
On August 29, 1954, she married Clifford C. Zetko at Scottsbluff, Nebraska. He preceded her in death September 19, 2007.
She worked the farm alongside her husband, and together, they built two homes.
Survivors include: one son, Leonard L. Zetko, La Crosse, Kansas; one daughter, Lora Lynn Isley (Robert), La Crosse, Kansas; and two grandsons, Matthew Isley (Amber), Hays, Kansas, and Steven Isley (fiancée, Anna Hickert), Salina, Kansas.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Wilbert Britthouer; and two sisters, Eleanor Wilson, and Dee Olson.
Memorial service will be Friday, February 2, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. at the Janousek Funeral Home, La Crosse, Kansas, with Pastor Terry Warner officiating. Inurnment will be in the La Crosse City Cemetery, La Crosse, Kansas.
In lieu of flowers or plants, the family requests memorials to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
