Dr. Jay Stanley Huebner, 85, passed away July 21, 2024, in his home in Jacksonville, Florida. He was born in Bancroft, Kansas July 10, 1939, to Samuel and Ruby (Graber) Huebner.
After graduating from Bushton High School, he married Jeanne Volkland August 13, 1961, in Bushton, Kansas. He went on to receive his bachelor’s in electrical engineering from Kansas State University. He received his Doctorate in Physics at University of California at Riverside. Jay and Jeanne became residents of Jacksonville, Florida where he was a founding faculty member of the University of North Florida and served as a Professor in the Department of Physics from 1972 until his retirement in 2006.
Jay could be found working diligently gardening. He took much pride in his ability to work soil to create a harvest. He had strong interest in astronomy and was fascinated with space exploration.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Jeanne Huebner, son; Jerold Huebner, daughters; Jena Huebner and Jill Huebner, and four grandchildren.
Graveside Service will be held Thursday, July 25, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Farmer Township Cemetery in Bushton, Kansas.
