KHP: Train struck pedestrians pushing wheelchair across track

SEWARD COUNTY —Authorities investigating a fatal accident that occurred just after 8p.m. Sunday in Seward County have identified the two who died as 61-year-old Adam J. Flores and 42-year-old Deanna M. Flores both of Bangor Maine.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported Adam Flores was pushing Deanna Flores in a wheelchair at Western Avenue near U.S. 54 and Seward County Road 3 and attempted to cross the railroad crossing while the crossing arms were down and warning signals were active.

They were struck by a Union Pacific Train.  Both were pronounced dead at the scene and transported to Miller Mortuary.  The KHP did not report the relationship between the victims.  The engineer and and conductor on the train from Texas were not injured.

The patrol reported a train struck a pedestrian pushing someone in a wheelchair at Western Avenue near U54  and Seward County Road 3. The pedestrians attempted to cross the railroad crossing while the crossing arms were down and the warning signals active. 

The KHP released no additional details including the names of the victims early Monday. Check the Post for additional details as they become available.
