Ada L. (Dougherty) Glick-Wanamaker, 102, of Winfield, Kansas and formerly of the Russell and Plainville, Kansas area, passed away Saturday, January 27, 2024 at the Cumbernauld Village in Winfield.
Ada was born on January 26, 1922 in the Codell, Kansas area. She was the youngest of nine children to Arthur Louis and Bertha (Camp) Dougherty. She grew up on the family farm and graduated from Plainville High School in the Class of 1939.
Ada was united in marriage to Henry Eugene Glick on July 9, 1940 in Hays, Kansas. This union was blessed with three children; Barbara, Anita and Tom. Gene worked in the oilfields and so they moved around the area for a few years before settling in Russell. Gene preceded her in death in 1962.
Ada was a devoted wife and homemaker for her family. After Gene passed, she worked at Farm Bureau in Russell and was a secretary for Theodore Gore Oil Company in Russell. She then moved to Manhattan, Kansas and was the Head Secretary in the college of Animal Science and Industry at Kansas State University for 15 years. She was an active member of the Russell Senior Center. She enjoyed reading, crocheting and sewing. Her main love in life was her children, grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Ada’s surviving family include her daughter, Barbara McCall of Pratt, Kansas; son, Tom Glick (Patricia) of Pittsburg, Kansas; seven grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ada was preceded in death by her parents; husband Gene; daughter, Anita Dole-Driscoll; brothers, Floyd Dougherty, Lester Dougherty, Harve Dougherty and Dale Dougherty; sisters, Murial Thurston, Eunice Pooley, Grace Dougherty and Elsie Kleinschmidt; grandson, Randy McCall; granddaughter, Lori Kilian; and great-great grandson, Tyson Dixon.
Celebration of Ada’s Life will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, February 3, 2024 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell. Cremation will follow the services. Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM, Friday, February 2, 2024 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, with the family present to greet friends from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A Memorial has been established with the Russell Senior Center. Contributions and condolences may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, who is in charge of these arrangements.
