January 11, 1923 - May 14, 2023

Venice Genevieve “Genny” Poage was born January 11, 1923 in York, Nebraska to Sylvia Anna and Vern Martin Elliott of York County, Nebraska.

She graduated from Holton High School in 1940 and married John Spencer. They had a son Bruce Alan; they later divorced. On August 24, 1947 she married Arthur Verle Poage. To this union a daughter was born, Verla Genice.

Genny worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company as a telephone operator and service representative for 35 years. She served several terms on the Norton City Council and as a Norton Ambassador.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Norton.

Genny enjoyed painting china, refinishing furniture; she taught herself to cane furniture and she loved her cats and antiques.

Genny was preceded in death by her parents Vern and Sylvia; husband Verle; sister Delores; and son-in-law Tony Grysch.

She is survived by daughter Verla Grysch of Norton; son Bruce Poage and wife Mary of Topeka; Poage grandchildren Steve (Tammy), Kyle (Kristin), all of Topeka; great-grandkids Alex (Becky), Caleb (Abby C.), Trevor (Brynn), Jenna, Abby K., and Nathan, and great-great-grandson Davis.

An informal gathering of family and friends will be held from 3-5:00 p.m. Thursday, May 25, 2023 at the funeral home. A private inurnment will be held in the Norton Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Andbe Home and sent in care of Plumer-Gobber Funeral Home, 215 W. Main St., Norton, KS 67654.
