Janice I. Dickinson, 86, of rural Gorham, Kansas, died on June 20, 2024, at the Russell Regional Hospital in Russell, Kansas.
Janice was born on July 23, 1937, in Manhattan, Kansas, the daughter of James Frank and Buleau (Silkman) Miller. She grew up in Manhattan, Kansas, and graduated from Manhattan High School in the class of 1956. She met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Robert Louis Dickinson on October 21, 1956, in Manhattan. From this union Janice and Robert were blessed with 4 children, Kirk, Sheryl, Valerie and Cathy. She worked with her husband on the family farm and as a homemaker raising their growing family. She also worked for many years as a paraprofessional educator with the Hays School District USD #489 in Hays, Kansas.
She was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church in Hays and was a former 4-H leader. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, teaching Sunday school at church, working with 4-H and tending to her vegetable and flower gardens. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Surviving family include her four children, Robert Kirk Dickinson and wife Coleen of Gorham, Kansas, Sheryl Wambold and husband Bill of Wasco, Oregon, Valerie Kostelansky and husband Bruce of Ft. Maclead, Canada and Cathy Musick and husband Doug of Lawrence, Kansas; sister Lea Piper of New Mexico; 11 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert on September 15, 2010, sister Jean DeLong and brother Durry Robbins
A memorial service to celebrate Janice’s life will be held at 2:30 P.M. on Thursday, June 27, 2024, at the New Life Church in Natoma, Kansas. Cremation has been selected by the family and inurnment of the cremains will be held at the Natoma City Cemetery immediately following the services at the church. Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Natoma, Kansas, is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.
