Joyce Elaine (Hulse) Harkness, 81, of Wichita, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, June 1, 2022, at her home with her husband and daughter by her side.
Joyce was born August 15, 1940, in Plainville, Kansas. She was one of five children born to Ray and Helen (Martin) Hulse. At the age of two, her family moved to Russell, Kansas where she grew up and attended school.
Joyce was united in marriage to Clarence Wayne Harkness on October 14, 1956, in Russell. Wayne was in the military so they moved around to several Air Force bases before returning to Wichita after his retirement.
Joyce enjoyed knitting, crocheting and collecting Teddy Bears, but was very proud to be an Air Force Officer’s wife.
Joyce’s surviving family include her husband of 65 years, Wayne of the home; daughter, Linda Dudley; son, Stephen Harkness, Michael Harkness and Shaun Harkness; brother, Joe Hulse; nine grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, three infants and brothers, Jerry Hulse and Donald Hulse; sister, Kathy McDonald.
Celebration of Joyce’s Life will be held at 1:00 PM, Monday, June 6, 2022, at the Otterbien United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at the Russell City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM, Monday, June 6, 2022, at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary. Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, is in charge of these arrangements.
