Jason Lee Brown, age 44, of WaKeeney, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday, October 5, 2022, in Hays, Kansas. Jason was born in Hays on January 28, 1978, to Walter Dale and Penny Louise (Cain) Brown. He graduated from Trego Community High School and continued his education at Northwest Kansas Technical College in Goodland, Kansas, where he trained in diesel technology.

Jason was previously married, and was engaged to the love of his life, Dawnna. He worked as a heavy diesel mechanic for Flatlander Dirtworks at the time of his passing. Jason was an avid hunter with a lifetime hunter’s license, enjoyed fishing, cooking, barbecuing, gardening, curing jerky, and even made his own moonshine. 

Jason was a true family man who loved his dog Lilo. He was very lucky with the lotto and would give the shirt off his back for anyone in need. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles lodge #3774 in WaKeeney.

Jason is survived by his fiancé Dawnna Bostick of WaKeeney; step-son Michael Burbach; step-daughter Karlee Burbach and son-in-law John Jarrell of Salina; step-daughter Raina Bostick, of WaKeeney; father Walter (Janet) Brown, of Cimarron, Kansas, and mother Penny Anderson of WaKeeney; daughters Kassie and Abigail Brown; granddaughter Elayna Jarrell and grandson Ayden Jackson; brother Jeffrey (fiancé Roxy Ellis) of WaKeeney; sister Melissa Marie Rothgeb of Cimarron; nephew Trenton Brown; niece Makala Brown; and many aunts and uncles. 

He was preceded in death by his grandparents and stepfather David Anderson.

Funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, October 10, 2022, at Schmitt Funeral Home with Pastor Jerod Brown officiating. Burial will follow at WaKeeney City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 PM on Sunday, October 9, 2022, at Schmitt Funeral Home, WaKeeney.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to WildTrust-Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism (for hunter’s safety). Donations may be sent to Schmitt Funeral Home, 336 North 12th, WaKeeney, KS 67672.
