James Floyd “Jim” Depperschmidt, 65, Liebenthal, Kansas, passed away Sunday, June 30, 2024, at the University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas City, Kansas.
James was born November 20, 1958, in La Crosse, Kansas, the son of Vincent and Stevana (Weigel) Depperschmidt. He was a lifelong resident of Liebenthal, Kansas. A graduate of Hays High School, Hays, Kansas, he was a maintenance person at the Rush County Courthouse, La Crosse, Kansas, before his retirement.
He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Liebenthal, Kansas, and a member of Knights of Columbus Council #2970, La Crosse, Kansas.
James enjoyed auto racing, whether he was at the track, or watching the races on the TV. He could be seen driving, enjoying the sights and sounds of the countryside.
Survivors include: one brother, Raymond Depperschmidt, Liebenthal, Kansas; two sisters, Rita Oborny (John), Rush Center, Kansas, and Cora Knipp (Jerry), Victoria, Kansas; eight nephews; seven nieces; numerous great nephews and nieces; and one sister in law, Mary Ann Depperschmidt, Wichita, Kansas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Leroy Depperschmidt, and Lonnie Depperschmidt.
Visitation will be Friday, July 5, 2024, from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Janousek Funeral Home, La Crosse, Kansas. A vigil service and rosary will be at 7:00 P.M.
Church visitation will be Saturday, July 6, 2024, from 9:00 A.M. to 9:50 A.M. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Liebenthal, Kansas.
Funeral service will be Saturday, July 6, 2024, at 10:00 A.M. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Liebenthal, Kansas, with Father Stephen Dabanka officiating. Interment will be in the St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Liebenthal, Kansas.
In lieu of flowers or plants, the family requests memorials to the James F. Depperschmidt Memorial Fund.
