Charlotte Joan (Nemechek) Albers, 91, of Grinnell, KS, passed away March 25th, 2024 in Salina, KS. She was born on April 13, 1932 in Trego County, KS, the third of Johanna (Gaschler) and Louis Nemechek’s eight children.
Charlotte graduated from Trego Community High School in 1950. She attended nursing school at St. Anthony’s hospital in Hays, graduating in 1954.
On April 14, 1956, she married Clem J. Albers at Christ the King Catholic Church in WaKeeney, KS. They lived in St. Louis, MO for a short time where Charlotte worked as a nurse, before moving to Clem’s family farm near Angelus, KS. There they had four sons: Tom, Curt, Eric John, and Jeff. Charlotte continued work as a nurse at the Logan County Hospital and was the school nurse for Oakley, Monument, Russell Springs, and Winona for 27 years.
Charlotte loved western Kansas and living in the home that Clem and she built together. They were lifelong parishioners of St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Angelus, KS. She enjoyed quilting, embroidery, exploring family history, and baking. As a grandmother, she was never too strict and was quick to laugh. She loved spending time with her granddaughters and great-grandchildren.
Charlotte is survived by three sons, Tom of Grinnell, KS, Curt (Rochelle) of Smolan, KS, and Jeff (Christina) of Salina, KS; four granddaughters, Carleigh (Kacper) Orlowski of Hays, KS, Whitney (Eric) Crook of Lawrence, KS, Carrie Albers of Ann Arbor, MI, and Taylor (Kellan) Ziegelmeier of Gem, KS; four great-grandchildren: Isaac and Caeli Orlowski, Emery Crook, and Fritz Ziegelmeier; and sisters, Betty Lipp of Collyer, KS and Mary Jo (Gary) McClanahan of WaKeeney, KS. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Clem; infant son Eric John; brothers, George Nemechek, Bill Nemechek, Doug Nemechek, and Richard Nemechek; and sister Darlene Tomanek.
A vigil will take place at 7:00pm, Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Oakley, KS. The memorial mass will be held at 10:00am, Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Oakley, KS, with inurnment in St. Paul Catholic Church, Angelus. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Charlotte’s name to the St. Paul’s Cemetery Fund in Angelus and sent in care of Baalmann Mortuary, PO Box 391, Colby, KS 67701.
