Roberta “Bobbi” Smith Shay, 93, passed away Thursday September 5, 2024 at Lane County Hospital in Dighton, Kansas. She was born February 20, 1931 in Scott City, Kansas the daughter of Lee and Buehlah (Morgan) Smith.
They lived in Tribune, Kansas until she was two and then moved to a farm North of Alamota. She went to grade school in Alamota for 1st and 2nd grade, 3rd and 4th grade in Eureka, and then to Beeler from 5th grade until graduation in 1949.
On September 3, 1949 she married Verlin Shay they were married for 55 years. To this union three girls were born, Canda (Ken) Warner , Polly Newport, and Kelly (Scott) Tucker. She was blessed with twelve grandchildren, which she enjoyed spoiling tremendously, but also taught them life lessons with a firm hand and a bar of soap or liquid dawn if needed. From these twelve grandkids she was blessed with 21 great grandchildren and knew all of their names!
Visitation will be held Monday September 9, 2024 from 2:00-8:00 pm at Boomhower Funeral Home in Dighton, Kansas. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am Tuesday September 10, 2024 at the Dighton United Methodist Church with burial in Dighton Memorial Cemetery. Services will be lived streamed on the Garnand Funeral Homes Facebook Page. The family suggests memorial contributions to Women of Faith or Dighton Recreation Baseball Program in care of Boomhower Funeral Home.
