September 2, 1934 - August 17, 2023

James Emory Ryabik passed away on August 17, 2023 surrounded by his family in Des Moines, IA.  Born on September 2, 1934 in Warren, OH, James was married to his wife Doreen until her death in 2011.

In addition to being a loving father, husband and Army veteran, James was an accomplished psychologist. He earned his B.A. in psychology at Youngstown University in 1961, his M.S. in psychology at Fort Hays State University in 1963 and his Ed.D. from the University of Northern Colorado in 1976.

While in Hays, KS, he was instrumental in starting the High Plains Mental Health Clinic. 

James then worked in several public and private posts in Topeka and Kansas City including the Menninger Foundation.  He is a widely published researcher as well as an accomplished jazz bassist. 

James was passionate about his pets that included dogs, cats and large birds.

He is survived by his son, Brett Ryabik of Atlanta, GA, his daughter, Gwyndolyn McMillin (Michael) of Des Moines, IA as well as his grandsons Connor and Jacob McMillin.  He will be sorely missed by his friends and family.
