Alice Marie (Eberle) Brungardt

Alice Marie (Eberle) Brungardt, 92, of Wichita, Kansas, passed away on Friday, January 6, 2023, in Wichita, Kansas. Alice was born the daughter of Hilarious and Barbara (Kinderknecht) Eberle in Hays, Kansas, on September 14, 1930. Alice and Melvin Joseph Brungardt were united in marriage on June 16, 1947, in Hays, Kansas. Together they celebrated 66 years of marriage before his passing in 2013.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister (LaVerna Lang), brothers (Marvin Eberle) and (Virgil “Abe” Eberle) and great great-granddaughter (Kiden Veal). Survivors include her children, Carol (Charles) Geller of San Angelo, Texas and Steven (Marcia) Brungardt of Wichita, 6 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, 9 great great-grandchildren and many extended family members.

Alice was very proud of her Volga-German heritage and loved listening and dancing to German music with her husband.  They enjoyed weekend “dates” playing cards with friends, square and round dancing, traveling to casinos, watching old westerns and discussing ancestors who migrated to the United States and settled in western Kansas.

After retiring as collateral custodian from the Federal Land Bank, Alice enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing, growing flowers and caring for the neighborhood feral cats.

She loved her family, her Catholic faith and learning new things.

Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be 10:30 a.m. and the Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. both on Saturday January 21, 2023, at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, 2701 S. Pattie St., Wichita, KS. Entombment will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery, 610 S. Vassar St., Wichita, KS.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Margaret Mary Catholic School.
