KEARNEY, Neb. - The Fort Hays State women's golf team finished 12th at the MIAA Championships held Sunday through Tuesday (April 13-15) at Meadowlark Hills Golf Course. The course played as a par-71 and spanned 5,908 yards.
The Tigers opened the event with a 341 in round one, then had back to back 353 rounds. The team finished 195-over par.
Shayla Nordlund led Fort Hays State with rounds of 77, 84 and 82, tying for 31st at 30-over par. Nordlund was tied for seventh after round one, finishing 6-over par and with two of her three birdies in the round.
Hayden York followed, tying for 57th with rounds of 83, 84 and 93 for a 260 (+47). Abbie Norris finished in 66th after scores of 92, 97 and 85 (+61). Kiley Maier shot 91, 88 and 97 to finish 67th at 276 (+63). Emma Walz placed 68th with a total of 280 in rounds of 90, 97 and 93 (+67)
The Tigers managed ten birdies and 87 pars as a team across the three rounds. Norris had three birdies, with Maier finishing with a pair. York and Walz each had one birdie.
No. 21 Central Missouri claimed the tournament title with team total of 916 (+64), winning by 22 shots. Sam Maceli from Northeastern State earned medalist honors at 16-over par, carding rounds of 77, 76 and 76.
The team will now wait for the regional selection announcement, set for Monday (April 28). If any Tigers are selected to compete in the NCAA Central Region Championships, the tournament will take place Monday through Wednesday(May 5-May 7) at KickingBird Golf Course in Edmond, Okla.
