Marlys M. Werth, 83, Schoenchen, died Saturday, November 25, 2023 at her daughter’s home, surrounded by family.

She was born July 6, 1940 in Dell Rapids, South Dakota, the daughter of Aaron and Bessie (Turner) Martinson.

On June 6, 1959, she was united in marriage to Ernest J. “Ernie” Werth in Las Vegas, Nevada, and they celebrated 61 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on August 22, 2020.

Marlys worked at Travenol, Skaggs, Midwest Drug, and was a cashier and door greeter at Wal-Mart.

She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, loved beautiful lights, the color blue, and found beauty in simplicity and gift giving. She was an Elvis fan, a talented artist, loved music and all animals which she called God’s creatures, but she especially loved horses and birds.

Survivors include her son, Ernest J. Werth, Jr. and wife Geralyn of Schoenchen, her daughter, Valerie Gabel and husband Ron of Schoenchen, five grandchildren, Frank Werth and wife Dierdre of Hays, Jenalyn Leiker and husband Nathan of Hays, Aaron Gabel and wife Colette of Santee, CA, Nathan Gabel and wife Kelli of Hays, and Anthony Gabel and wife Samantha of Wichita, her granddaughter-in-law, Christy Werth of Schoenchen, 18 great-grandchildren, Allyson Werth, Harley Werth, Olivia Werth, Bryce Werth, Aubrey Werth, Brett Werth, Ahnalyn Leiker, Rexton Leiker, Makailyn Leiker, Reylyn Leiker, Evelyn Gabel, James Gabel, Aurora Gabel, Emma Gabel, Lacey Gabel, Brixon Gabel, Greyson Gabel, and Atticus Gabel, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ernie, a grandson, Daniel Werth, two brothers, Aaron “Marty” Martinson and Roger Martinson, an infant brother, Larry Martinson, and a sister, Delores Schram.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at St. Anthony Catholic Church. Inurnment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:30 am until service time on Saturday at the church.
