Brenda Kay Newcomer

Brenda Kay Newcomer, age 58, of WaKeeney, KS, passed away Friday, August, 9th, 2024 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas.

Brenda was born on June 18th, 1966 at Trego Lemke Memorial Hospital to Robert Spena and Patricia Hands. She graduated from Trego Community High School in 1984 and earned her associate's degree from Brown Mackie College. Brenda married Steve Newcomer in 1985, and they would go on to raise 3 beautiful children together, before later separating.

Brenda held several jobs in the community, including working in the business offices at Trego Lemke Memorial Hospital and Gove County Medical Center. She also worked at several banks in the area, including most recently First Federal Bank.

In her free time, Brenda enjoyed hanging out with her friends, country cruising, and listening to music. She treasured the time spent with family and was extremely proud of her granddaughters. She was a sucker for a good Hallmark movie and dedicated to reading her daily devotional. She took a lot of pride in her home and yard. Her flower gardens were meticulously maintained, and everything was always in its place.

Brenda is survived by her son Mitch Newcomer (Kim) of WaKeeney, KS; Daughter Whitney Montgomery (Taylor) of Denver, CO; 3 granddaughters, Kamryn and Eva Newcomer and Harlow Montgomery; Brothers Scott Spena of Elizabethton, TN and Rob Spena of Littleton, CO; Sister Raina Alm of Hays, KS; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her daughter Lexsie Newcomer; Parents, Patricia Hands and Robert Spena; and Stepfather, Henry Ries.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, August 16, 2024, at Christ the King Catholic Church. Father Dan Scheetz of the Salina Diocese will be officiating. A rosary and family visitation will be held at the church, prior to the service, starting at 9:30 AM.  Lunch at the parish hall will follow the graveside service.
