Leila 'Jean' Stevens

Leila Jean Stevens passed away Friday, May 27, 2022, at the Smith County Health & Rehab in Smith Center, KS at the age of 88.  She was born August 9, 1933, in Winfield, KS, the daughter of Russell and Edith (King) Reisinger.

The family lived in Winfield until Jean was 12.  They then moved to Kansas City where she graduated from Northeast High School.

In 1951, she was united in marriage to Walter Wells and to this union 3 daughters were born.  The couple later divorced. 

She then met and married Warren Stevens in 1964.  To this union a son & daughter were born.

The couple lived in Albuquerque, NM for several years where she worked as a secretary.  They then moved back to Phillipsburg to help care for Warren’s mother. 

Jean enjoyed doing word search puzzles and was a Hospice volunteer.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Warren, her sister, Lorene Higgs, granddaughter, Danielle Brown & great grandson, Mark William Aaron.

Survivors include her son Jerry of Amarillo, TX; her daughters: Brenda Younts of Phillipsburg, Bonnie Wells of Leadville, CO, Kristine Kersh of Denver, CO, Vanessa Montoya of Albuquerque, NM; her step-daughter, Shirley McNew of Texas; her brother, Wesley Reisinger of Valley Center, KS; 18 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren & 3 great great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 3, at 1:00 p.m. in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel with Pastor Dave Pugh officiating.  Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Leila “Jean” Stevens memorial fund.

Visitation will be from noon to 9:00 Thursday at the funeral home.
