Christine Lorraine Hockman, 66, of Hays, passed away on Dec. 3, 2023, in Hays. She was born to Carl and Sharon (Wilson) Alvis and was preceded in death by her husband, Kevin Hockman, in 1989. Christine was a devoted long-time day care provider.
Christine had a kind heart and a big love for life that was evident in her passions and pursuits. She adored children and had an obscene obsession for the color pink.
She also loved coffee, unicorns and popcorn in movies. Christine was especially proud of her ability to successfully quit drinking and smoking.
In addition to her role as a daycare provider, Christine was known for her involvement in the community. She served as the trailer park neighborhood watch person, keeping an eye on the safety of her neighbors. Furthermore, she dedicated herself to helping the Hispanic community by distributing donated food from the church as the local food bank.
She is survived by her son, Jason Johnson of Hays; her daughter, Kendra Trebilcock of Garden City, Mo.; her brother, Bucky Alvis of Cawker City,; two sisters, Beth Thompson of Shawnee, Okla., and Angela Alvis of Victoria; three grandchildren, Talon and Gage Trebilcock, and Jacob Johnson, as well as the father of her children, Jay Johnson, and a multitude of nieces and nephews by birth and by choice.
Christine was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Kevin, and two brothers, Ben and Kenny Alvis, along with numerous extended family members.
A celebration of life service will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 9 at Keithley Funeral Homes and Crematory-Brock's Chapel, 2509 Vine, Hays, KS 67601.
A memorial visitation will precede the service, starting at 1 p.m.
The family requests that donations be made to The ARC or animal rescue of choice in Christine's honor.
