Thomas John “Tom” Bohm, 78, Hays, died Thursday, June 16, 2022, at his home.
He was born November 22, 1943, in Salina, the son of Claire Louise (Schwerman) Bohm. In 1960, he graduated from Sacred Heart High School. He was united in marriage to Debbie Walters on June 30, 1978, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hays, and were married nearly 44 years. Tom owned and operated Kansas Precision Contact Lens, Bohm’s Bike Shop, and Bohm’s Coffee Shop. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, a former member of the Hays Optimist Club, and was co-founder and coach of the Hays Striders Track Club. Tom enjoyed bicycling, visiting with everyone, and teaching religion at Kennedy Middle School and TMP-Marian High School. He was an avid golfer, devout Catholic, and most of all, loved his family.
Survivors include his wife Debbie of Hays, a son: Matthew Bohm and wife Chelse of Overland Park, two daughters: Sarah Mackey and husband Todd of Hays and Claire Ludes and husband John of Salina, 12 grandchildren: Heather Tipton and husband Joh, Thomas “TJ” Glass, Anthony Bohm, Alexis Mackey, Carter Bohm, Kaylee Bohm, Peyton Mackey, Michael Mackey, Greyson Mullen, Boe Ludes, Zane Sims, and Addison Sims, and two great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother, three sons: Thomas, Sean, and John Bohm, and two daughters: Dawn Bohm and Stacy Bohm-McCann.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Monday, June 20, 2022, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Fr. Richard Daise officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 pm until 8:00 on Sunday and from 9:00 am until 9:45 on Monday, all at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home. A vigil service and rosary will be at 7:00 pm on Sunday at the funeral home.
