Mary E. Volpert, 81, passed away April 5, 2024, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, Kan. She was born November 5, 1942, in Chanute, Kan., the daughter of Benjamin and Lula (Taylor) Shaner. She married Everette Volpert Aug. 6, 1972, in Junction City, Kan. Everette passed away Dec 18, 2002.
Mary, a resident of Great Bend since 2015 coming from Florida, Arkansas, and Manhattan, Kan., had been in hotel management for many years. She had also had the pleasure of being employed as a cook and house mom for Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity, at Kansas State University. She was a Life Member of the V.F.W. and American Legion Auxiliaries, enjoyed fishing, fellowship at the Great Bend Senior Center, crocheting, and, in her younger years, was active with several bowling leagues and CB Radio clubs.
Survivors include one son, Stephen Volpert and wife Dee of Great Bend; three daughters, Teresa Dimond and husband Jeff of Chanute, Kan., Jeanette Hodges of St. George, Kan., and Debbie Wisehardt of Manhattan, Kan.; step daughter, Nancy Volpert of Kent, Wash.; stepson, Jeff Volpert and wife Trina of Topeka, Kan.; one sister; and 23 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in passing by her husband Everette; one stepson, Greg Volpert; one son-in-law, Willard Hodges; and six brothers and four sisters.
Memorial graveside services will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, April 27, 2024, at Louisville Cemetery in Louisville, Kan. Memorials may be given to the Great Bend Senior Center, in care of Bryant Funeral Home, 1425 Patton, Rd., Great Bend, KS.
