Kevin Lee Geerdes, 53, of Hoxie, Kansas, passed away on Monday, November 14, 2022, at his home. Kevin was born on June 14, 1969, in Hoxie, Kansas, to Robert “Bob” and Carol (Ochs) Geerdes. He was the second of three sons. Kevin attended Hoxie Grade and High School graduating with the class of 1987. After high school, he attended Fort Hays State University and graduated Cum Laude with a degree in Industrial Arts. After graduation, he returned to Hoxie where he made his home in rural Sheridan County.
Kevin worked in construction for a while, and then, he went into farming with his family. He was a farmer for most of his life raising crops and cattle. If Kevin wasn’t in the field or taking care of cattle, he was always busy in his wood shop making things. When he wasn’t working, he enjoyed attending the Fort Hays State University and Hoxie High School basketball games. Kevin enjoyed attending rodeos and stock car races. He was always listening to sports on the radio. He was a member of the St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, the Elks, and was a boy scout when growing up.
Kevin is survived by his mother, Carol Geerdes of Hoxie, Kansas; brothers, Doug Geerdes and wife Dana of Hoxie, Kansas and Vic Geerdes and wife Kari of Hays, Kansas; nieces, Kayla Geerdes, Kelsey Geerdes, Katie Geerdes, Madison Geerdes, and Morgan Geerdes; and extended family and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Geerdes; and grandparents Henry W. and Margaret Geerdes and Clem and Emma Helen Ochs.
A Mass of Christian Burial is planned for Saturday, November 19, 2022, at 10:30 A.M. at the St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, Hoxie, Kansas. Visitation and a Vigil and Rosary Service will be held Friday, November 18, 2022, at the Mickey-Leopold Funeral Home, Hoxie Kansas. The visitation will be held from 2:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. with family receiving friends from 5:30 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. with the Vigil and Rosary Service stating at 7:00 P.M. immediately following the Visitation. Memorials are suggested to the St. Frances Cabrini Cemetery and Hoxie DSNWK.
All of Kevin’s plowing of the soil and taking care of livestock are over. He dwells with Christ above and has discovered the glories of Heaven. He loved his family, and his passing leaves a hole in their lives. They know as long as there is memory, Kevin will always be with them in their hearts.
