Robert E. 'Bob' Glassman

Robert E. “Bob” Glassman, 90, Hays, died Sunday, August 21, 2022, at Hays Good Samaritan Society.

He was born October 27, 1931, in Hays, the son of Edgar C. and Amelia (Haas) Glassman.  Bob graduated from Hays High School and attended Fort Hays State University.  On September 13, 1954, he was united in marriage to Geraldine Younger in Victoria.  They later divorced.  He worked as a plumber and was the owner and operator of The Downtowner.  His memberships included St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Joseph Third Degree Knights of Columbus Council #1325, and the Order of Secular Franciscans.  Bob loved baseball, and for 18 years, coached the Little League Cardinals and Hays Legion teams.  He enjoyed making rosaries and putting puzzles together, all of which are cherished by family.

Survivors include his son: Edgar Glassman and wife Diana of Hays, four daughters: Debbie Lewton of Hays, Shelly Glassman of Great Bend, Bobbi Irwin and husband Les of Topeka, and Amy Huff of Hays, four sisters: Esther Pfannenstiel of Billings, MT, Clara Korbe of Hays, Roseann Keast of Longmont, CO, and Betty Tenuta and husband Al of Tucson, AZ, eight grandchildren: Heath Funk and wife Shannon, Bobby Lewton and wife Haley, Andy Lewton and wife Jacklyn, Jordan Surmeier, Cody Huff and wife Tiffany, Ben Glassman and wife Megan, Colin Glassman, and Nick Glassman, 17 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son: Curtis Glassman, and two sisters: Lillian Hayes and Bernita Hammerschmidt.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Friday, August 26, 2022, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Fr. Richard Daise officiating.  Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 8:00 on Thursday and from 9:00 am until 9:45 on Friday at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.  A Secular Franciscan rosary will be at 6:00 pm and a vigil service at 7:00 pm followed by a Knights of Columbus rosary, all on Thursday at the funeral home.
