Dwayne J. Peitz, 72, died Thursday, December 14, 2023, at his home in Garden City, Kansas. He was born March 5, 1951, in Garden City, Kansas, the son of Clemens Edward & Dorothy Marie (Ausmus) Peitz.
Dwayne grew up in Garden City where he attended St. Mary Catholic School and Garden City High School, graduating in 1969. On July 7, 1972, he married Rebecca Rae “Becky” McMullen in Garden City. They lived in Holcomb from 1974 to 1999, returning to Garden City where they have lived since. Dwayne worked as a heavy equipment diesel mechanic for Sellers Equipment for more than 30 years. He retired in 2017. He enjoyed spending his time hunting and fishing and loved to spend time with his family, especially his grandsons.
Survivors include his wife Rebecca “Becky” Peitz of the home; two children Derek & wife Tara Peitz of Cedar Park, Texas and April & husband Adrian Bond of Wichita, Kansas; six siblings Dennis & wife Irma Peitz of Garden City, KS, Rita Herrell of Garden City, KS, Theresa & husband Mike Meng of Garden City, KS, Becky Upshaw of Bryan, TX, Gary Peitz of Colorado, & Carmen Wagner of Garden City, KS; and five grandsons Michael Bond, Bradley Bond, Garrett Peitz, Treyson Bond, & Jacob Peitz.
Dwayne is preceded in death by his parents Clemens and Dorothy Peitz; and three brothers Jim Peitz, Larry Peitz, & Frank Peitz.
A Vigil Service & Rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 19, 2023, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Garden City. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, also at St. Mary Catholic Church with Fr. Jacob Schneider as Celebrant. A private family burial will take place at a later date at the Boles Cemetery near Haviland, Kansas.
