Winifred ‘Winnie’ Hendershot

Winifred "Winnie" Hendershot, 100, who lived in Hutchinson over 70 years, died November 4, 2022, at Brookdale East Senior Living Center, Wichita.

Celebration of Life service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, November 12, 2022, at the South Hutchinson United Methodist Church, 206 East Avenue E, South Hutchinson, with the Reverend Mike Rose officiating.  Burial will follow in Pleasant View Cemetery, Darlow, KS, under the entrusted direction of Elliott Mortuary and Crematory, Hutchinson.  Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, November 11, 2022, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary.  Condolences may also be left for the family by signing the mortuary’s online guest book.  To view the funeral service online, go to the South Hutchinson United Methodist Church facebook page.

Winnie was born in 1922, in Hutchinson, the daughter of Gladys Elizabeth (Switzer) Brock and Roland Forest Brock.  Upon graduation from Sharon Springs High School in 1940, she attended Kansas Wesleyan University, Salina, and then Hutchinson Community College, Hutchinson, where she completed a 60-hour teaching course.  Winnie then taught at Antioch County Grade School, Abbyville, and Eastern Star School, Pretty Prairie. 

She married Wilbur "Bill" Ellis Hendershot, in Hutchinson in 1944, and from that union was born Sharon Jean and Larry Roland.  Together they farmed south of Hutchinson for many years.  Winnie was a member of the South Hutchinson United Methodist Church, Darlow Study and Social Club, and Lincoln EHU.  She enjoyed researching family genealogy, collecting antiques, and spending time with Bill on many wonderful camping trips with the Good Sam’s Club.

Winnie was preceded in death by: her parents; husband, Wilbur "Bill"; son, Larry Roland; and three brothers, Robert, Richard, and John.

Survivors left to cherish her memory and to continue her legacy are:  her daughter, Sharon (Don) Kinney of Wichita; daughter-in-law, Marlene Hendershot of Hereford, TX; nine grandchildren, Rebecca Lynn (Troy) Vanlandingham of Wichita, Brian (Gaby) Epperson of Kennewick, WA, Matthew Hendershot of Bremerton, WA, Chris (Danielle) Hendershot of Boise, ID, Katherine Hendershot of Amarillo, TX, Marshall Hendershot of Sinjana, Guam, and Toni Ramirez, Sidney Hall, and Lindsay Slater, all of Wichita; fifteen great-grandchildren, Caden and Taylor Vanlandingham of Wichita, Ayden Hendershot of Amarillo, TX, Santiago, Samuel, and Sebastian Epperson, all of Kennewick, WA, Sawyer Hendershot of Boise, ID, Zack, Luis, Adam, and Chris Ramirez, Erika (Dante) Valdez, Reznor and Layla Hall, and Logan Slater, all of Wichita; and six great-great-grandchildren, Ottillia, Noah, Liam, Delilah, Abel, and Aspen, all of Wichita.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the South Hutchinson United Methodist Church or Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, in care of Elliott Mortuary and Crematory, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the staffs at Brookdale Senior Living Center, Hutchinson, and Brookdale East Senior Living Center, Wichita, for the care Winnie received while a resident.
