Marlene Davis Meier, 87, died Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City, Kansas. She was born March 23, 1936, in Fargo, Oklahoma, the daughter of Floyd & Vera (Crain) Mitch.
Marlene grew up in Fargo, Oklahoma where she attended schools and graduated from Fargo High School in 1954. She then moved to Garden City where she attended Garden City Junior College. On June 10, 1956, she married Dewey Davis in Fargo, Oklahoma. They lived in Manhattan, KS, Medicine Lodge, KS, and Meade, KS. While in Medicine Lodge, she owned and operated a restaurant and while living in Meade she owned and operated a clothing store Marlene’s. Marlene later worked as a nurse’s aide and a physical therapist assistant. Marlene’s husband Dewey died on February 7, 1993. Marlene later married Alex Meier on January 29, 2000, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Alex died in March 2001. Marlene moved to Darrouzett, TX before moving to Woodward, OK. While in Woodward, she volunteered her time working at the hospital. She later moved to Garden City in 2019 where she has lived since.
Marlene was a member of the Lutheran Church in Meade, and a member and past president of the Chamber of Commerce in Meade where she was instrumental in starting Dalton Days. She loved to spend her time playing the Keyboard especially with her band, the Davis Sisters. She also enjoyed dancing, bowling, playing golf, traveling especially on cruises, and loved spending time with her family.
Survivors include three daughters Carla & husband Nick Cossman of Jetmore, KS, Lana & husband Alan Lindhorst of Wamego, KS, and Darinda & husband Richard Gerber of Garden City, KS; eleven grandchildren; twenty three great-grandchildren; a longtime friend Ed Reinschmidt of Custer City, OK; and many nieces and nephews. Marlene is preceded in death by her two husbands Dewey Davis and Alex Meier; her parents Floyd & Vera Mitch; and a sister Betty VanLandingham.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 29, 2024, at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City, KS, with Rev. Gerry Dupuis officiating. Graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. also on Monday at Graceland Cemetery in Meade, KS. Visitation hours will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City.
