LeRoy Dinkel, 86, of Grainfield, Kansas, died February 27th, 2024, at Wheatlands Healthcare Center in Kingman, Kansas with family at his side. He was born in Grainfield to John and Christina (Kaiser) Dinkel on September 23, 1937.
He was preceded in death by his parents John and Christina; siblings, Mary, Francis, Richard, Darlene, and Loretta; his wife of 29 years Inez (Kraft) Dinkel, and second wife Joan (Yoakum) Dinkel of 22 years.LeRoy is survived by his sister Louella (Willie) Zerr of Oakley, Kansas; children; John (Laura) Dinkel of Leander, Texas; Vicki (Joel) Jarnagin of Goddard, Kansas; Jim (Cindy) Dinkel of Las Vegas, Nevada; Brad Dinkel of Round Rock, Texas; and Scott (April) Dinkel of Lincoln, Nebraska.LeRoy enjoyed seven grandchildren; Matthew, Jessica, Jayde, Joshua, Trevin, Trajan, Tatiana; and eight great grandchildren; Jackson, Jase, Cooper, Reagan, Aleyna, Aston, Evelyn, Iylah.
LeRoy was a lifelong resident of Grainfield where he raised his family and worked in the northwest Kansas area until his retirement.
After graduating from Grainfield High School in 1955, he enlisted in the US Navy and was honorably discharged after three years of service.
On December 27, 1961, he married the mother of his five children, Inez Kraft in Park, Kansas. After Inez passed away in 1990, he remarried to Joan Yoakum in Grainfield on October 24, 1992.LeRoy worked at the family service station with his dad after his time in the Navy. He was also employed by Shaw Motors, and Mead Construction before starting his own contracting business in association with Southard Home Improvement. After selling the business, he became the Grainfield city services manager until his retirement. Even after retirement he helped out with projects around the community and anyone who required his many areas of expertise. He was a volunteer fireman, a member of the Knights of Columbus, and the American Legion.
There will be a visitation and viewing from 3:00- 5:00 p.m., Sunday, March 3, 2024, at Baalmann Mortuary, Oakley. A rosary will be led by the Knights of Columbus at 9:30 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 4, 2024, at Saint Agnes Catholic Church in Grainfield. Graveside service will follow at the Grainfield Cemetery. Honorary bearers for the service are Mathew Dinkel, Joshua Jarnagin, Trevin Dinkel, Trajan Dinkel, and Chandler Ray.
