Lois M. Thompson, 91, La Crosse, passed away Sunday, Dec. 25, 2022, at Rush County Memorial Hospital, La Crosse.
Lois was born July 16, 1931, in rural Rush County, the daughter of John C. “Jack” and Tenie A. (Leatherbury) Mendenhall. She was a lifelong resident of Rush County. A 1949 graduate of La Crosse High School, La Crosse, she owned and operated the La Crosse Motel, La Crosse, before her retirement.
Lois enjoyed coin collecting and was a member of the local coin club.
On Sept. 7, 1974, she married Richard A. Cunningham. He preceded her in death July 17, 1986. On Nov. 22, 2004, she married G. W. Thompson in La Crosse. He preceded her in death Feb. 6, 2014.
Survivors include three sisters, Jeanette Rogers (Walter), McCracken, Barbara Owen, Seward, and Linda Schenk (Daniel), Albert, Kan., a niece, Colette Wittman; numerous nephews and nieces; three step sons, David Thompson, Pratt, Daniel Thompson (Julie), Tonganoxie, and Dennis Thompson (Christine), Lathrop, Mo.; one stepdaughter, Deborah K. Brashier (Larry), Norman, Okla.; step-grandchildren; and step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; one brother, Jack Mendenhall; two sisters, Reettia Wittman, and Leona Mendenhall; one sister-in-law, Sharon Mendenhall; and one brother-in-law, Billy Owen.
A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2022, at Locust Hill Cemetery, Rush Center, with Pastor Mark Sizemore officiating. The interment will be in Locust Hill Cemetery, Rush Center.
In lieu of flowers or plants, the family request memorials to the Lois M. Thompson Memorial Fund.
