Melvin R. Leiker passed away on Feb. 6, 2024, in San Antonio, Texas. He was born on Feb. 10, 1933, in Hays to Frank Leiker and Virginia Arnold Leiker.

Melvin was preceded in death by his sons, David, Matthew and Mark Leiker.

He is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn Leiker; daughters, Cheryl Johnson (Mike), Sara Hordinski (Terry) and step-daughter, Ann Kucera (Michael); step-son, Clay Poe; sister, Thelma Walker (Roe); brother, Wilfred Leiker (Eileen); grandchildren, Mandy Atkisson, Kenneth Atkisson (Sarah), Paul Atkisson (Colette), Megan Kucera (Brennan), Mitchell Hordinski (Jordan), Luke Leiker (Sabrina); great-grandchildren, Mackenzie and Case Kucera, Colt Leiker, Jude and James Atkisson.

Mel loved his family and his church, Oakridge Baptist Church in San Antonio, Texas. He regularly played his dulcimer at Sunday worship services. His other hobbies included woodworking, gardening, fly-fishing and reading.

Visitation will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 12 with a service at 2 p.m. at Oak Ridge Baptist Church, 10915 Vance Jackson Road, San Antonio, Texas 78230. Interment will follow at Mission Retama Cemetery.
