Lore (Lori) Marie (Rendigs) Miller was born during World War II on June 26th, 1943 in Twistringen, Germany to Albert and Elfriede (Addicks) Rendigs. She grew up in Leste near the city of Bremen in Northern Germany. Lori’s relatives and friends, who all reside in Germany, have mostly come to visit her in Kansas, including her parents, uncles, aunts, and cousins.
After receiving her education, on the invitation of her parents’ friends who lived in New York City, Lori arrived in New York Harbor on November 14th, 1961 on the ship “Berlin”. She quickly found work as a Nanny of a wonderful family with three children. She began evening classes to learn conversational English and US History and fell in love with New York. Lori had promised her family she would only stay one year in the US, but she returned to Germany after ten months. Four months after her return to Germany, she decided to come back to the US for another year to see other parts of the country with an adventurous spirit.
During this following trip back at the end of January, 1963, on the voyage across the Atlantic Ocean on the Ship “Bremen”, she met her future husband. Lore Rendigs and Larry Miller of Agra, KS were married on November 30th, 1963 at St. John Lutheran Church in Kensington, KS. They went for their Honeymoon to Copenhagen, Denmark and to Germany so Larry could meet all of the family.
Lori was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Kensington, KS and held various positions as a Sunday and Bible school teacher and church reader. She was also active for a number of years at the Fred Marran American Legion Post #166 Ladies Auxiliary where she was elected to the position of Auxiliary President. That same day, in 1969, she received her United States Citizenship in Oberlin, Kansas and changed her name from Lore to Lori.
Lori entered into the hearing aid profession later and enjoyed a successful 20 year career until retirement. Lori and Larry moved from the farm to Kearney, NE, getting closer to better health care, and were excited to purchase their retirement home and enjoy new friends and experiences. They additionally became members of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Kearney. Lori and Larry celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary together, and they cherished the many family trips around the country and the world.
Lori loved to travel, play Rumikub and bridge, read, and knit.
Lori is survived by her daughter Holly Clark and Glenn Beyer of Holloway, MN; son Carey of Las Vegas, NV; three grandchildren Aric Clark and great grandchild Jaxon of Muscotah, KS, Adam Clark with great grandchild Feurie of Neodesha, KS, and Taylor Miller of Las Vegas, NV; sister Hanna Buddelman; brother Albert; sister-in-law Lisa Rendigs; as well as, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins of Germany; brother-in-law Gary Miller and wife Annie Miller of Florida; and nieces and nephews in the United States.
She is preceded in death by infant sons Douglas Miller and Ryan Miller, husband Larry Miller, her parents Albert and Elfriede Rendigs, and sister Traute Bruenig.
Cremation was planned. A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 9, 2024 in the St. John Lutheran Church, Kensington, with Pastor Kathy Whitney officiating. Inurnment will follow in the St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Kensington.
Memorial contributions may be made to the St. John Lutheran Cemetery or Team Schnak Strong Fund which helps send kids with Type 1 Diabetes to Camp Discovery.
