Robert Wayne "Bob" McCurdy, 72, died Saturday, January 7, 2023, at the Minneola District Hospital.
He was born August 29, 1950, at Astoria, Oregon, the son of Mac and Delores McCurdy. He lived many places growing up, including Hawaii and California. In November of 1978, he married Rebecca Dent and moved to Colorado. He received his Associates Degree from Front Range Community College in Colorado. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War where he was a helicopter gunner attaining the rank of Sergeant. He served his country as an active-duty soldier for 8 years and then joined the Army National Guard for another 4 years. The family remained in Colorado until 1985 when they relocated to San Diego. While there, Bob worked at NasCo Shipyard and Sundstrand as a mechanical maintenance engineer. He was a jack of all trades, working as maintenance director at Aspen Hospital, maintenance supervisor at the Lodge in Sundance, Utah. He also owned his own fresh seafood business “Just For The Halibut” after relocating to Scott City, Kansas. His last line of work before retirement was driving truck and hauling oil in Colorado. He moved to Dodge City in 2006 and resided in this area until 2016. He made the move to Wyoming with his daughter and her family and moved back to Dodge City in 2019. Bob was a member of VFW Post 1714 and American Legion Post 47 both in Dodge City.
Survivors include: 2 daughters, Rhiannon Morlan and husband Jamey, Offerle and Cyndy McCurdy, Australia; a son, Robert McCurdy Jr, Fullerton, Nebraska; 2 sisters, Diana Drapeau and husband Norman and Kimmie McCurdy all of Massachusetts; a sister-in-law, Kathy McCurdy, Enterprise, Alabama; 9 grandchildren, Janee Morlan; Kayden McCurdy and significant other, Zona Rhoades; Josh Wilson, Jarret McCurdy and significant other, Kinsie Reed; Bailey, Sofie, Leah, Clarissa, and Liam and 2 great grandchildren, Jentrie Morlan and Leslie Gill.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his former wife, Rebecca, a brother, Mike McCurdy, as well as other relatives.
Memorial services will be at 2:00 pm Thursday, January 12, 2023, at Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Dodge City, with David Johnson officiating. His cremated remains will be scattered at sea with military honors as per his wishes. There will be no public viewing.
