Michael Lee McKinney, age 69, of Hays, Kansas died in his home on June 28, 2022. He was born May 29, 1953, in Ellis, Kansas, to Chester Lee and Bonnie Jean (Mickelson) McKinney.
He married Deborah (Gutierrez) Rico on August 13, 1979, in Meade, Kansas.
Michael grew up in Meade. In 1971, he graduated from Meade High School and following his graduation he served 4 years in the U.S. Navy from 1971 to 1975 and was a Vietnam Veteran.
He is survived by his brother: Dave of Hays, Kansas; sisters: Pam Ackerman of Meade, Kansas; and Carol Jones of San Antonio, Texas. Step-daughters: Jennifer Moore; Crystal Rico; Laurena Rico; a step-brother: Jimmy DeLong, and a step-sister: Pam McGee; together with numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; brother: Everett; and his step-brother: Joe DeLong.
Cremation has taken place, and a graveside service, with military honors, at the State of Kansas Veterans Cemetery at WaKeeney is pending – Those service times will be announced by Brock's-Keithley Funeral Chapel and Crematory, 2509 Vine Street, Hays, Kansas 67601.
