The public is invited to a visioning session for Kansas’ Person-Centered Transformation.&nbsp; 

This regional event through the Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services (KDADS) and the LifeCourse Nexus will be held in Hays on April 16 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the Schmidt Gallery at the Hays Public Library, 1205 Main Street.&nbsp; 

The event focuses on envisioning the future of person-centered services in Kansas, collaborating with others, and helping shape meaningful change in Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) for all waivers.&nbsp;

This is an opportunity for attendees to share their vision and help shape the future of person-centered support in Kansas.&nbsp; Attendees will learn about person-centered thinking and practices, as well as for community leaders, providers, self-advocacy groups, individuals, and families to connect, and share experiences.&nbsp;

Women Who Lead's annual scholarship application period is now open. 

The scholarship is for female residents of Ellis County.

At least three $1,000 scholarships will be awarded for 2025 to women who will be attending Fort Hays State University, Fort Hays Tech North Central or Hays Academy of Hair Design.

LAWRENCE — The University of Kansas School of Music is proud to announce an outreach tour&nbsp;featuring the KU Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Matt Smith. 

The band will embark on a two-day&nbsp;tour across central and western Kansas, performing five concerts for students and the public.

The tour will take place on March 31 and April 1, with performances at high schools in Clay Center,&nbsp;Junction City, Hays, Garden City, and Dodge City. 

These concerts will provide students and community&nbsp;members with an opportunity to foster a connection with the university and experience one of the&nbsp;nation’s premier collegiate wind ensembles.

"We are thrilled to share the joy of live music with students and audiences across Kansas," said Matt&nbsp;Smith, co-conductor of the KU Wind Ensemble. "Music has the power to inspire, educate, and connect&nbsp;us, and we look forward to engaging with these communities and nurturing a love for the arts."

KU Wind Ensemble to perform in Hays as part of Kansas tour

The Special Olympics Kansas Basketball and Cheerleading Competition is almost here and volunteers are still needed to make the event unforgettable for all of the athletes, coaches, families, and fans who will be attending the event.

 On March 21-22, Special Olympics athletes from all over central and western Kansas will converge on Hays. 

Athletes will have the opportunity to participate in cheerleading, individual skills, and team basketball play throughout the two days. Volunteers are still needed for several areas of the event. 

Some volunteer roles include scoreboard, scorebook, individual skills, and referee.

The Hays Area Board of Zoning Appeals will have a public hearing on Monday to consider a request for a setback variance for a free-standing ITM (interactive teller machine) canopy at 2500 Vine St.

Credit Union of America is opening a new location in Hays on the site of the former Love's Country Store. The convenience store building, signage and canopy have been demolished. The underground gasoline storage tanks will also be removed.&nbsp;

The two-day event will cover key topics related to the dairy industry, including market updates, pricing strategies, and regulatory frameworks. Registration is $100.

The workshop begins on March 27 at 1 p.m. with a welcome session and an overview of the dairy industry. Other sessions include updates from market administrators, discussions on animal care, and an evening tour and dinner at McCarty Dairy in Rexford.

Friday’s agenda features discussions on classified pricing, federal order systems, and dairy accounting. Attendees will also have opportunities to network and enjoy a catered lunch. The event concludes at 3:30 p.m. with a wrap-up and Q&amp;A session.

NATOMA — Natoma Lions Club continue a legacy in volunteer service in a myriad of projects each year. Members are committed to meet the challenges of neighbors, within and without the community. 

On March 8, Natoma Lion members will be providing support for a family in crisis. 

Natoma Lions, along with community volunteers, will be flipping pancakes, scrambling dozens of eggs, frying sausages, then adding coffee and orange juice to serve in the Natoma Community Center, 5 -8 p.m.

 Donations will be appreciated for the family of Luke Wise, hospitalized in critical condition with cancer. 

The Natoma Lions join the International Lions Clubs to focus on local, state, national, and international projects by giving sight to the blind, diabetes awareness, disaster relief, crisis relief, community outreach, Peace Poster, and other projects. 

Natoma Lions Club gives credence to the Heartland’s heritage of generosity by serving others. They join with millions of members in holding to the International Lions Club motto, “We Serve.”

FHSU Sigma Chi White Rose Ceremony to honor those impacted by cancer

On this episode of the Hays Post Podcast, Jeff Leiker of "The Morning Blend" talks with Dr. Terry Crull,&nbsp;assistant professor of music and director of choral activities at Fort Hays State University about Thursday's concert.

The choirs of Fort Hays State University will present their Spring Choral Concert&nbsp;with a concert theme of "FOLK, JAZZ, &amp; POP"&nbsp;Thursday, March 13, in the&nbsp;Beach Schmidt Performing Arts Center at 7:30 p.m.

The Concert Choir of 55 voices and the Fort Hays Singers&nbsp;of 20 voices will both appear, singing a wide variety of choral&nbsp;titles. Also, there will be selections by the Smoky Hill Chorale.

All choirs are conducted by Dr. Terry Crull and&nbsp;accompanied by Pam McGowne.&nbsp;

🎙Free spring concert presented by FHSU choirs tonight

Tickets are still available for the fourth annual “Becoming Light Together” dinner and fundraiser at Fort Hays State University on Saturday, April 12.

The event, sponsored by the Comeau Catholic Campus Center is an evening to "celebrate the good work Christ is doing in the hearts of Fort Hays Catholic students, talk about the future and cultivate support for years to come."

More than 450 students actively participate in the Catholic Tigers organization with FHSU through various events such as Wednesday Catholic Tigers, bible studies, retreats, Mass and men's and women's nights.

Along with FHSU Chaplain Father Andy Hammeke, guest speakers for the night will be FHSU graduate Deacon Adam Urban, who will be ordained a Catholic priest in May, and current student Jianna Rojas from Goddard.

The event will kick off with a 4:30 p.m. rosary in the St. Francis of Assisi Chapel, followed by Mass at 5 p.m. celebrated by Bishop Gerald Vincke, then a social hour – all at the Comeau Catholic Campus Center.

The dinner and program are set to begin at 7 p.m. in the Fort Hays Ballroom of the Fort Hays State University Memorial Union.

Tickets are $50 per person and can be purchased through April 1 by visiting <a href="https://www.catholictigers.org/">catholictigers.org</a>.

Numerous businesses and individuals help sponsor the event, with the Leo J. Dreiling and Albina Dreiling Charitable Trust providing matching funds for the first $50,000 raised.

Imagine Ellis County,&nbsp; an organization focused on bringing effective change to Ellis County, will be hosting its first Think-Tank Throwdown on April 3, 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. at BriefSpace, 219 W. 10th, in downtown Hays. 

Think-Tank is an event centered around the opportunity for all Ellis County residents to present their ideas to a board of judges for the chance to see their idea come to life. 

How does it work? Come up with an idea of how Ellis County could be improved! 

Illustrate your idea with either a paper document or planned presentation along with a proposed budget of how much it will cost to execute. Fill out an online or paper application (available at BriefSpace) by the entry deadline of March 21.

This summer, thousands of Kansas teenagers will begin their first job working for a farmer or rancher. 

For those that are ages 14 or 15, they must complete a tractor safety course in order to be legally employed. A thirteen-year-old may enroll in the training if turning 14 before the next year’s class is offered, but the certificate will not be issued until their fourteenth birthday.

To help prepare some of those youth for the upcoming work season. The Midway district, along with the collaboration of the Cottonwood extension district, will be hosting an in-person tractor safety class on April 5 starting at 8:15 a.m. at the Ellsworth Carrico Implement location 1104 E. 8th St., Ellsworth.

This course will meet the requirements of the U.S. Department of Labor’s Hazardous Occupations Order for Agriculture. These&nbsp; regulations state that youth 14 and 15 years of age who wish to work as a hired employee for someone other than a parent or legal guardian and operate a farm tractor that is 20 HP or greater must successfully pass a tractor safety training program.

The cost of the program is 15 dollars to cover the cost of materials for the course. 

Those wanting to enroll should visit and complete the “Tractor Safety Registration Form.” 

Enrollment is due by Friday, March 28 for the Ellsworth location.

Other tractor safety courses will be held at later dates: April 26,&nbsp;Beloit Carrico Implement; May 22,&nbsp;Solomon, at KanEquip.
