MANHATTAN, Kansas (AP) — Brendan Hausen scored 18 points on 5-for-6 shooting, Coleman Hawkins scored 15 points and Kansas State routed Oklahoma State 85-57 on Wednesday night.

Max Jones scored 14 points, Dug McDaniel scored 10 and the Wildcats (9-11, 3-6 Big 12) had 10 players enter the scoring column. Kansas State shot 52.6% (30 for 57).

Reserve Marchelus Avery scored 22 points, shooting 7 for 8, and Bryce Thompson was the lone starter in double-digit scoring for Oklahoma State with 11 points. The Cowboys' bench outscored the starters 39-18 and made 14 of their 21 made field goals.

The Wildcats began by establishing a 10-0 lead and were up 15-4 with 15 minutes before halftime. Avery threw down a dunk and Thompson made a layup to get Oklahoma State within 25-18 with 9:39 before the break, but McDaniel countered with a 3-pointer and layup for a 12-point lead. The Wildcats stayed ahead by double figures the rest of the way. Kansas State led 45-23 at halftime.

It was Kansas State's second largest margin of victory this season. On Dec. 1, the Wildcats beat Arkansas-Pine Bluff 120-73 at home.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Jalen Hurts and coach Nick Sirianni are ready for a Super Bowl rematch with Patrick Mahomes and former Eagles coach Andy Reid.

Two years after the Kansas City Chiefs knocked off the Eagles in the&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/super-bowl-2023-kansas-city-chiefs-philadelphia-eagles-43a1fb387f63438c1eea23b6a4244d95">Super Bowl</a>&nbsp;— and won another last season — the teams will play again on Feb. 9 in New Orleans.

The difference in the outcome this year just might be Philadelphia's addition of 2,000-yard rusher&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/saquon-barkley-philadelphia-eagles-2055f71ba7bcca305d29f56e226b3f29">Saquon Barkley</a>. Barkley has turned the Eagles' run game from a concern for the opposition through the last decade to a downright fear. Fear that Barkley can score from anywhere. Fear that Barkley can shift momentum at any time.

Just look at how he bookended the last two playoff games — a 60-yard TD run on the Eagles' first offensive play in the&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/commanders-eagles-score-b4f7c398625075b73f74bfe3531662e4">NFC championship game</a>&nbsp;against Washington and a 78-yard TD in the snow that was the final exclamation point in a&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/eagles-rams-score-barkley-6a7d6f115c1077dd3be95290ea11f264">victory over against the Los Angeles Rams</a>&nbsp;the previous week.

Hurts now has a weapon out of the backfield to run wild against the Chiefs.

Even with Barkley, the Chiefs are early 1 1/2-point favorites to win the Super Bowl, according to BetMGM Sportsbook.

Hurts delivered a&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/super-bowl-jalen-hurts-philadelphia-eagles-4e35f23e4df01cd39d01120565d18807">record performance in the Super Bowl</a>, throwing for 304 yards against Kansas City and a touchdown, running for 70 yards and three scores, and adding a game-tying 2-point conversion.

Hurts joked after Sunday's NFC title clincher that Sirianni had “let me out of my straitjacket” after he threw for 246 yards and a touchdown and ran for three scores following weeks of modest passing numbers. Hurts developed a reputation this season as more of a game manager, the kind of QB not necessarily asked to make big winning plays, while not losing the game.

Sirianni scoffed at the idea that Hurts, who tweaked his left knee during the divisional round and suffered a concussion in late December, is anything but the dynamic dual threat that can lead the Eagles to their second Super Bowl championship.

“It’s amazing how much doubt there is sometimes. I can’t quite comprehend it because it doesn’t look like what people think it should look like,” Sirianni said. “But the guy has been clutch. He’s won a ton of football games. ‘But you ran for this many yards.’ We don’t care how we win. We don’t care. If we rush for 300 and pass for one and we win, great. If we rush for one and pass for 300, great. Who cares?”

No pressure, but all the Eagles need to do to win a Super Bowl is play with total team domination, just as they did against the Commanders.

A.J. Brown had 96 yards receiving and a touchdown catch. Dallas Goedert had seven catches for 85 yards and both receivers had key blocks in Barkley’s 60-yard run for a score on the opening drive. All-Pro linebacker Zack Baun led the Eagles with 12 tackles. The Eagles' defense forced four turnovers and scored 21 points off three fumble recoveries.

After the Eagles lost to the Chiefs in the Super Bowl, Sirianni said, “We use this pain, we use this failure to motivate us so we can make it a strength."

The Eagles found another source of motivation for this season — last season's epic collapse, going from a 10-1 start to a 1-5 finish and a loss in the wild-card round.

“It’s been the story of the 2023 to the 2024 Eagles. As bad of a feeling we had about how last year ended, I think it makes you who you are,” Sirianni said Sunday.

Can the Eagles finally tap into the failure fuel and join the 2017 Eagles as the only ones in franchise history to win a Super Bowl?

Barkley is just 30 yards shy of breaking Terrell Davis’ mark of 2,476 total yards rushing set in the 1998 season when the Denver Broncos won the Super Bowl.

“A lot of these things come down to how you finish. And I think being able to lean on him when we’re trying to bring things home, I think that’s a huge impact he’s made for us,” Hurts said.

Barkley could have a triple threat of reasons to celebrate in New Orleans. He could knock Davis out of the top spot in the rushing record book, the Eagles could win the Super Bowl and he turns 28 on Feb. 9.

The Chiefs have allowed 296 total yards rushing in two playoff games.

The Eagles played their most complete game of the season and the 55 points were the most any team has scored in a conference championship game since the 1970 NFL/AFL merger. But it could have been 58.

As he has been for much of the season, Jake Elliott remains perhaps the top concern for the Eagles. He did make all of his extra points for the first time in three playoff games. But he was wide right on a 54-yard field goal attempt in the second quarter, and long distance kicks remain an issue. Elliott's counterpart, Kansas City's Harrison Butker, made a 54-yarder in last year's Super Bowl.

Can the Eagles trust Elliott from way downtown with a championship on the line?

Eagles offensive linemen Cam Jurgens (back) and Landon Dickerson (knee) both played one half of the game with injuries while 36-year-old defensive end Brandon Graham, who has been out since Nov. 24 when he tore his triceps, has hinted all season that he might be able to return for the Super Bowl. “We'll see,” he said Sunday. Running back Kenneth Gainwell was evaluated for a concussion.

3 — The Eagles are one of three NFL teams with four Super Bowl berths since 2004, joining New England (seven) and Kansas City (four) during that stretch. Sirianni is the third head coach to reach multiple Super Bowls in his first four career seasons, joining Joe Gibbs (1982, ’83) and Mike Tomlin (2008, ’10).

Most sports fans remember the Super Bowl matchup between the two teams. The Eagles, though, won the most recent meeting in November 2023. TOPEKA. – A magical season for the Hays High School boys’ swim team continues.

On Tuesday at the Topeka High meet, the Indians knocked 7.5 seconds off their previous-best time in the 400-yard relay team to qualify for the state championships.

Their time of 3 minutes, 41.51 seconds capped another successful day for the HHS squad, which has just 11 players on its roster.

The Indians still scored enough points (189) to finish fifth in team scoring, which was dominated by Class 6A heavyweights Lawrence Free State (538) and Lawrence High (339).

Thirty of the Indians’ points came from that state-qualifying 400-yard relay team of senior Marshall Sook, sophomore Cedric Durr and juniors Karsen Flaska and Chase Zadina that finished third in that race.

That foursome also has qualified for state in the 200-yard relay.

Also on Tuesday, Sook qualified for the season finale in the 100-yard freestyle with his personal-best time of 52.44 seconds, good enough for fourth place.

He will have a busy weekend at the Class 5-1A State Championships on Feb. 20-22 in Lenexa, as he had already qualified in the 50-yard freestyle earlier this season.

On Tuesday, Sook placed second in the 50-yard free with a career-best time of 23.11 seconds and also was a member of the 200-yard medley team that finished fourth.

In an extremely competitive field in the 50-yard free, Flaska finished just out of the top 10 in 11th place but still hit a state-consideration time of 24.75.

Because of the size of the meet (12 schools), scoring went to the top 16 finishers in each race.

Other top-eight finishes for Hays High were the 200-yard medley relay (Flaska, junior Noah Shaeffer, Zadina and Sook), fourth; junior Jude Hileman, eighth, 200-yard individual medley; Zadina and Durr, sixth and eighth, 100-yard butterfly; Flaska, fifth, 500-yard freestyle; and Hileman, eighth, 100-yard backstroke.

Next up for Hays High will be Saturday at the Wichita West meet, where the Indians will try to better some of their state-consideration times to automatic-qualifying standards.

HAYS -&nbsp;The TMP-Marian Monarchs earned a doubleheader split of a pair of non-league games Tuesday night in Hays.

GIRLS: TMP 41, Great Bend 32 TMP (7-5) outscored Great Bend 11-2 to end the first quarter and open the second quarter on their way to a 41-32 victory.

Great Bend (4-9) held on to a 5-2 lead in the first quarter but the Monarchs closed the first quarter and opened the second quarter on a &nbsp;12-4 run taking a 13-7 lead with 1:46.

Hannah Rose and Claire Schippers each connecting on a three-pointers capping off the Monarchs’ run.

The Monarchs led by as many as six in the second quarter and eight in the third quarter before Great Bend trimmed the lead to three, on back-to-back threes and pulled themselves within 25-22 in the final minutes of the third quarter.

In the final frame the Monarchs’ Gracyn Schippers scored 10 of her game-high 12 points as Monarchs closed out a 41-32 win.

BOYS: Great Bend 68, TMP 41 The Great Bend Panthers (12-1) outscored the Monarchs 13-0 over the first 3 minutes and 45 seconds of the first quarter and maintained the double digit lead on their way to the 68-41 victory.

It took the Monarchs (5-7) until the 3:35 mark of the first quarter to break onto the scoreboard when Will Eck hit the first of nine three pointers on the night for the Monarchs.

Ty Schmeidler added a pair of free throws and a three of his own in the first quarter making it 17-8 but the Panthers quickly extended their lead once again. Great Bend led 25-9 after the first quarter.

Great Bend used a 6-0 run to end the first half and outscored TMP 14-6 to open the second half, for a 20-6 run the put the game out-of-reach for the Monarchs.

Great Bend would go on to secure a 68-41 victory.

TMP’s Caden Dinkel scored nine on three three pointers. Schmeidler added eight points.&nbsp;

Great Bend’s Ian Premer scored a game-high 25 points.

TMP will host Larned on Friday and Great Bend hosts Hays.

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Zeke Mayo scored 24 points, including a pair of clinching free throws with 3.1 seconds left, and No. 11 Kansas rallied to beat UCF 91-87 on Tuesday night to avoid its first back-to-back losses in Allen Fieldhouse in 36 years.

Hunter Dickinson added 24 points and Flory Bidunga had 10 points and 11 boards for the Jayhawks (15-5, 6-3 Big 12), who were coming off a double-overtime loss to sixth-ranked Houston.

The Knights (13-7, 4-5), who got 34 points from Keyshawn Hall and 19 from Darius Johnson, led by nine early in the second half before the Jayhawks used a 12-2 run to take their first lead since midway through the first half.

The Jayhawks were clinging to an 87-86 lead when KJ Adams, back after missing three games to a shoulder injury, made a pair of free throws with 4.6 seconds left. Kansas fouled Johnson at the other end and he made one of two foul shots, and Mayo then went to the line for the clinching free throws.

Kansas has not lost consecutive games at the Phog since dropping four straight under Roy Williams in 1989.

UCF lost to the Jayhawks by 51 points at home a couple of weeks ago. So the fact that the Knights were able to take Kansas to the wire in Allen Fieldhouse speaks volumes about their resiliency.

Kansas played without Dajuan Harris Jr., who hurt his ankle in practice. The Jayhawks could have used his experience, especially when their guards got into foul trouble. He's played in 159 games and had started the last 98 of them.

Adams only scored 12 points, but his free throws in the final seconds were crucial.

Kansas got 29 points from its bench. UCF got two.

UCF plays BYU on Saturday. Kansas heads to Baylor the same day.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Fort Hays State remained among the receiving votes section of the NABC Top 25 Poll for the fifth-straight week on Tuesday. The Tigers currently own a 13-5 overall record for the season and sit in second place in the MIAA standings.

Washburn remained the No. 1 team in the nation in both the NABC and D2CSC Top 25 Polls for a third-straight week. The Ichabods are off to a 19-0 start to the season, one of only two undefeated teams remaining in NCAA Division II. Fort Hays State is the only other MIAA program referenced in the latest NABC poll. The Tigers are the fifth-highest listed team among schools in the Central Region, with four currently in the Top 25 and one joining FHSU in the receiving votes section.

The Tigers get a chance to play the nation's top ranked team on Thursday in Topeka in the second meeting with the Ichabods this season. Washburn won the first meeting of the season in Hays 71-57 back on December 7.It has not been very long since FHSU last faced an NABC No. 1 ranked team. The last occurrence was against Northwest Missouri State during the 2022-23 season. All five previous occurrences of FHSU playing the NABC No. 1 ranked team in its NCAA Division II history have been on the road, picking up a win in one of the contests. That win was at No. 1 ranked Central Missouri during the 2009-10 season in Warrensburg when FHSU held the No. 13 ranking in the NABC Poll. Three of the five meetings against No. 1 teams on the road were at Northwest Missouri State, and the other was at Metro State (now MSU Denver) during the 2003-04 season.

Two of Fort Hays State's losses this season were to current NABC Top 25 ranked teams. The Tigers fell to Washburn back on December 7 when the Ichabods were ranked No. 3 and to Southwest Minnesota State (currently No. 13) in the season opener back on November 8. Southwest Minnesota State began the season receiving votes, while FHSU was ranked No. 16 in the preseason poll. 🏀 Tiger men still receiving votes in NABC poll

NEW ORLEANS – The Fort Hays State men's track and field team is ranked 24th in the first USTFCCCA NCAA Division II National Rating Index of the season, released Tuesday by the United States Track &amp; Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. Fort Hays State currently ranks fifth in the Central Region and fourth in the MIAA. The Tigers also feature two event squads ranked in the top five nationally: the pole vault squad sits second, while the 200-meter squad is ranked fourth.

The Tigers have posted 15 provisional marks so far this season, with two athletes earning top-10 national rankings. Pole vaulter&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/mens-track-and-field/roster/jacob-clark/8482">Jacob Clark</a>&nbsp;ranks third in Division II after clearing 17-2.75 feet, while sprinter&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/mens-track-and-field/roster/hayden-albright/8477">Hayden Albright</a>&nbsp;holds the ninth-best time in the 200-meter dash with a mark of 21.39 seconds.

Next up, the Tigers will split their squad for competition this weekend. Some athletes will travel to Kearney, Neb., for the Charlie Foster Classic on Friday (Jan. 31), while others will head to Topeka, Kan., for the Washburn Open, which runs Friday (Jan. 31) through Saturday (Feb. 1).&nbsp;&nbsp;

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Fort Hays State men's track and field senior Jacob Clark&nbsp;has earned a third-consecutive MIAA Field Athlete of the Week honor, announced Tuesday by the league office. The Nottingham, England native has earned the distinction all three times it has been awarded by the league this season.

Clark continued his undefeated season in the pole vault last Friday (Jan. 24), winning the Rumble in the Jungle Invitational with a top clearance of 16-8 (5.08m). That national-qualifying performance would be the best in the conference during the 2024-25 season were it not for his season-best mark of 17-2.75 (5.25m) achieved in December.

The five-time All-American has surpassed the five-meter mark in all four of his competitions this season, a threshold reached by any other MIAA competitor only once this season.

Clark is the first Tiger to earn at least three MIAA weekly honors in a single season since&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/mens-track-and-field/roster/coaches/brett-meyer/1379">Brett Meyer</a>&nbsp;did the same during the 2018-19 indoor campaign.

The Fort Hays State women's basketball team jumped back into the top 10 in the latest WBCA NCAA Division II Coaches Poll released Tuesday, with the Tigers now slotted eighth in the country. The Tigers also moved back into the top 25 of this week's D2CSC Media Poll, with FHSU sitting in 22nd in that top 25.The Tigers picked up 397 points in the balloting process of the coaches poll this week, up 91 points from 306 last Tuesday when FHSU was 11th in the country.

This is the fourth time in program history that the Tigers have been ranked eighth in the coaches poll and the first since February 16, 2021. The Tigers are 4-0 all-time when ranked eighth in the coaches poll, including home wins over Lincoln and #16 Central Missouri in 2021 and home wins over Missouri Western and Northwest Missouri State in 2019. The Tigers were also ranked eighth in the final poll of the 2014-15 season.

Fort Hays State is 173-45 all-time when ranked in the coaches poll, including a 120-26 mark when ranked inside the top 10. The Tigers have now been listed in the poll 114 times, including 74 appearances in the top 10.The Tigers are back into the top 25 of the media poll after spending last week in the top spot of the receiving votes category. This is the second time FHSU has been 22nd in the media ranks after being in the same position during the 2024-25 preseason poll.

Pittsburg State is the only other MIAA program recognized in either poll, with the Gorillas now sixth in the coaches rankings and fifth in the media poll.

The Tigers will be on the road again this week beginning Thursday when they take on Washburn in Topeka, Kan.

🏀 Tiger women back in the top 10 of WBCA poll, 22nd in media ranks

Patrick Mahomes and the&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/buffalo-bills-kansas-city-chiefs-afc-championship-score-c9187ccf15160bd5eabba73086ee9a42">Kansas City Chiefs</a>&nbsp;accomplished a feat that had never been done before: Getting back to the NFL's championship game following back-to-back Super Bowl wins.

Next up is the rare championship three-peat that hasn't been accomplished in the NFL, NBA, NHL or Major League Baseball in more than 20 years.

The most recent team in those four leagues to win three straight championships was the Los Angeles Lakers with Shaquille O'Neal and Kobe Bryant in the 2000-02 NBA Finals.

Only two NFL teams have ever won three straight championships with Green Bay doing it from 1929-31 when the champion was determined by regular-season record and then again in the 1965-67 seasons. Vince Lombardi's Packers won the final NFL championship before the start of the Super Bowl era in 1966 and then won the first two games between the AFL and NFL champions that determined the true kings of pro football.

Since the end of that Green Bay run, there have been seven three-peats in the four biggest North American pro sports leagues. Here's a look at those dynastic teams:

Charlie Finley's Swingin' A's dominated baseball in the early 1970s with a roster filled with big characters. Led by slugger Reggie Jackson, dominant starters Catfish Hunter and Vida Blue, the A's knocked off the Reds, Mets and Dodgers in successive seasons to join the Yankees as the only baseball franchises to win three straight titles.

Montreal dominated the NHL for decades with 23 Stanley Cups. The majority of those came in the pre-expansion Original Six era, but the Canadiens put together an impressive run in the late 1970s under coach Scotty Bowman. Led by dynamic scorer Guy LaFleur, two Cup-clinching goals by Jacque Lemaire, Hall of Fame defenseman Larry Robinson and goalie Ken Dryden, Montreal raced to four straight titles with a 48-10 record in the four postseason runs.

As soon as the Canadiens' dynastic run ended, the Islanders started one of their own as the last hockey team to win at least three straight titles. Al Arbour's squad was led by high-scoring wing Mike Bossy, defenseman Denis Potvin and goalie Billy Smith. The run started with an overtime clincher by Bobby Nystrom against Philadelphia in the 1980 Stanley Cup Final and then they lost only once in three other trips to the Final.

After coming up short in back-to-back seasons against the Detroit Pistons, Michael Jordan and the Bulls broke through in the 1991 NBA Finals by beating Magic Johnson and the Lakers in five games. Chicago then dominated for most of the decade, repeating as champs in 1992 and 1993 for the NBA's first three-peat since Boston won eight straight titles from 1959-66.

After a brief step back in the 1994-95 seasons after Jordan stepped away to play baseball, the Bulls were even more dominant in their second run. Chicago won a then-record 72 regular-season games on the way to the title in 1996 and then won again the next two years before Jordan temporarily retired and the team broke up.

 </figure>By JOSH DUBOW AP Pro Football WriterPatrick Mahomes and the&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/buffalo-bills-kansas-city-chiefs-afc-championship-score-c9187ccf15160bd5eabba73086ee9a42">Kansas City Chiefs</a>&nbsp;accomplished a feat that had never been done before: Getting back to the NFL's championship game following back-to-back Super Bowl wins.Next up is the rare championship three-peat that hasn't been accomplished in the NFL, NBA, NHL or Major League Baseball in more than 20 years.The most recent team in those four leagues to win three straight championships was the Los Angeles Lakers with Shaquille O'Neal and Kobe Bryant in the 2000-02 NBA Finals.Only two NFL teams have ever won three straight championships with Green Bay doing it from 1929-31 when the champion was determined by regular-season record and then again in the 1965-67 seasons. Vince Lombardi's Packers won the final NFL championship before the start of the Super Bowl era in 1966 and then won the first two games between the AFL and NFL champions that determined the true kings of pro football.Since the end of that Green Bay run, there have been seven three-peats in the four biggest North American pro sports leagues. Here's a look at those dynastic teams:<h2>Oakland Athletics, 1972-74</h2>Charlie Finley's Swingin' A's dominated baseball in the early 1970s with a roster filled with big characters. Led by slugger Reggie Jackson, dominant starters Catfish Hunter and Vida Blue, the A's knocked off the Reds, Mets and Dodgers in successive seasons to join the Yankees as the only baseball franchises to win three straight titles.<h2>Montreal Canadiens, 1976-79</h2>Montreal dominated the NHL for decades with 23 Stanley Cups. The majority of those came in the pre-expansion Original Six era, but the Canadiens put together an impressive run in the late 1970s under coach Scotty Bowman. Led by dynamic scorer Guy LaFleur, two Cup-clinching goals by Jacque Lemaire, Hall of Fame defenseman Larry Robinson and goalie Ken Dryden, Montreal raced to four straight titles with a 48-10 record in the four postseason runs.<h2>New York Islanders, 1980-83</h2>As soon as the Canadiens' dynastic run ended, the Islanders started one of their own as the last hockey team to win at least three straight titles. Al Arbour's squad was led by high-scoring wing Mike Bossy, defenseman Denis Potvin and goalie Billy Smith. The run started with an overtime clincher by Bobby Nystrom against Philadelphia in the 1980 Stanley Cup Final and then they lost only once in three other trips to the Final.<h2>Chicago Bulls, 1991-93 and 1996-98</h2>After coming up short in back-to-back seasons against the Detroit Pistons, Michael Jordan and the Bulls broke through in the 1991 NBA Finals by beating Magic Johnson and the Lakers in five games. Chicago then dominated for most of the decade, repeating as champs in 1992 and 1993 for the NBA's first three-peat since Boston won eight straight titles from 1959-66.After a brief step back in the 1994-95 seasons after Jordan stepped away to play baseball, the Bulls were even more dominant in their second run. a pair of victories over ranked opponents, the Hays High girls moved up six spots
to No. 2 in the latest Kansas Basketball Coaches Association 5A rankings released
Tuesday. The Indians had dropped in the poll after their last win over a ranked
team.

Wellington, who the Indians defeated in the Orange &amp;
Black semifinals, falls one spot to No. 2 in Class 4A. Colby, who Hays beat in the
title game, remains fifth in Class 3A.

The Hoxie girls drop a spot to No. 6 in Class 2A. Quinter is
seventh in 1A Division 1.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Chiefs are headed back to the Super Bowl, trying to become the first team in NFL history to win it three consecutive times, and one of the biggest reasons why is that they have something John Wayne and Jeff Bridges have had over the years.

No matter the circumstances — the odds, the deficits, the injuries that seem insurmountable — the Chiefs always find a way in the end. That was the case again Sunday night, when Patrick Mahomes led them to the go-ahead field goal and&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/bills-chiefs-josh-allen-sean-mcdermott-a8efc2f6ffcac9b8f42a334ab268f503">the Kansas City defense stopped Josh Allen</a>&nbsp;and the Buffalo Bills late to preserve&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/buffalo-bills-kansas-city-chiefs-afc-championship-score-c9187ccf15160bd5eabba73086ee9a42">a 32-29 victory in the AFC title game</a>.

“I think the guys kind of thrive on that,” Chiefs coach Andy Reid said Monday. “When given the opportunity, they've stepped up in those situations, and as a coach you love that part. And you know that's a rare thing. These games could have gone either way, no different than last night, and guys, they take so much pride in stepping up, and they don't shrink in those situations.”

The Chiefs have won an NFL-record 17 straight one-possession games dating to a 20-14 loss to the Raiders on Christmas Day in 2023. In so many of them, Mahomes and the Chiefs had to rally in the second half, including the victory over Buffalo, where Kansas City found itself trailing 22-21 in the third quarter but managed to pull ahead on Mahomes' TD run in the fourth.

They held on from there, becoming the first back-to-back Super Bowl champion to win their ensuing conference title game.

Now, they get to face the Eagles on Feb. 9 in New Orleans in a rematch of the first Super Bowl of their current run.

“We had six or seven games (this season) where it was one possession. We continued to build off,” Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones said. "These games are very familiar to us. We’re used to being in these types of situations. We feel very calm, we feel very at peace with what we’re running — the speed of it, the pace of it and the playcalling.”

Need more proof? Go back to the start of the 2019 postseason, when the Chiefs were headed toward their first Super Bowl title in five decades. Eleven times in the playoffs, they've trailed by a score in the fourth quarter or overtime, and they've been able to produce seven touchdowns and four game-tying field goals in those stress-inducing situations.

“It takes everybody,” Mahomes said Sunday night, “and we've done it so many different ways now that we just have full trust. The coaches have trust in the players and the players trust in the coaches, and we go out there and execute our job. When you've done it over and over again, it becomes habit. And obviously, we'd want to win by more, but I think the regular season — winning all those close games — has prepared us for moments like today.”

After they were nearly shut out by Houston in the divisional round, Chiefs wide receivers had 12 catches for 191 yards and a TD against the Bills. That included six catches and 85 yards from first-round draft pick Xavier Worthy.

The Chiefs didn’t force any turnovers against the Bills. They may need to produce a couple against the Eagles to win the Super Bowl.

Kareem Hunt has solidified his spot ahead of Isiah Pacheco in the running back pecking order, running 17 times for 64 yards and a score against the Bills. Many of those yards came between the tackles when Kansas City needed it most.

Chiefs safety Bryan Cook has struggled in coverage much of the year. That was the case again on Sunday.
