Norton prison COVID cluster still state's largest; 3 other area clusters

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment reported an outbreak of COVID-19 at the Norton Correctional Facility continues to be the largest active coronavirus cluster in the state, although numbers are falling.

KDHE on Wednesday reported 375 active COVID clusters in the state, accounting for 9,116 cases, 100 hospitalizations and 86 deaths. 

There were 68 COVID cases reported at the Norton prison in the last 14 days, the first time in three weeks the cluster of cases has been in the double digits.

Other area clusters identified by KDHE were:

• Ellsworth Correctional Facility, 27 cases
• Larned State Hospital, 30 cases
• Ascension Living Via Christi Village, Hays, 10 cases
