Oktoberfest grew even bigger with the unveiling of the world's largest bierock, weighing in at 118.2 pounds.
Created by Union Catering, the bierock filled many stomachs at the annual celebration. Philip Kuhn, Oktoberfest committee member and Union Catering Owner, led the project.
The project showcases the collaboration between Union Catering and Fort Hays State University, providing support throughout the process.
Kuhn said this year’s bierock weighed over 20 pounds more than the first one in 2022. The first bierock weighed approximately 95 pounds and was limited in distribution.
The preparation involved working for around six hours on the dough, filling, and cooking the cabbage, followed by two and a half hours of baking, according to Kuhn.
Lewis Automotive sponsored the event and contributed $5,000 to Oktoberfest festivities.
