Ellis Police Department
At 8:40 p.m. Saturday, officers from the Ellis Police Department and Ellis County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a residence in the 500 block of West 14th Street for a domestic disturbance involving a firearm.
Prior to law enforcement’s arrival on scene, the suspect who was identified as 27-year-old Mikayla McCarthy of Ellis, fled the area on foot. Officers on scene developed information that after an argument, McCarthy pointed a .45 caliber handgun at the victim who then summoned law enforcement assistance.
Officers searched the immediate area but were unable to locate McCarthy. Through investigation and follow-up with a family member, Officers were able to locate McCarthy and negotiate a peaceful resolution to the situation. McCarthy was taken into custody in the 500 block of Dorrance Street and was transported to the Ellis County Jail without further incident.
McCarthy is being held on a requested charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. McCarthy is considered innocent until proven guilty by a court of law.
