TOPEKA&nbsp;— Lieutenant Governor and Secretary of Commerce David Toland encourages Kansas jobseekers and employers seeking new talent to participate in this month’s Virtual Statewide Job Fair. Hosted by&nbsp;KANSASWORKS, the job fair will take place from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 24.

“As companies look to Kansas as a place to expand their work, we are continuing to see an influx of workforce opportunities,”&nbsp;Lieutenant Governor and Secretary of Commerce David Toland said. “I encourage every Kansan looking to expand their skills or professional development to sign up for the virtual job fair and see what employers across the state have to offer.”

The Virtual Job Fair portal will include helpful information such as a jobseeker training video, a list of participating employers and channels for attendees to register and log in. Jobseekers are encouraged to dress professionally, as employers may request to engage in a video interview.

Candidates can participate through any digital device. Any individual with a disability may request accommodations by contacting their nearest workforce center at (877) 509-6757 prior to the event.

Monday's Cash Grab winner is....

The Hays Symphony will be combining with FHSU choirs for its spring finale concert on Saturday, April 20, at 7:30 p.m. in the Beach/Schmidt Performing Arts Center. The concert, themed “Tragedy and Triumph,” celebrates and bids farewell to another season of majestic music.

Concert-goers will get to hear the rare sound of a full concert orchestra and choir through the opening performance of Mozart’s Coronation Mass. The program will conclude with Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4.

“Our final concert of the season, Tragedy and Triumph, will bring together the Hays Symphony and FHSU Choirs for Mozart’s elegant and sublime Coronation Mass,” stated Music Director Brian Buckstead earlier in the season. “We will bring the season to an exciting close with Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4, a bold, expressive, and thrilling masterpiece by the beloved composer.”

The two immense pieces comprising the concert program reinforce the dual themes proposed by Director Buckstead, “Tragedy” and “Triumph.” In Tchaikovsky’s Fourth Symphony, hammering brass repeatedly clash against blissful melodies that imitate daydreams. The master composer echoes the way fate can cruelly intrude upon happiness through the sudden blasting of his signature trumpet rhythms.

Meanwhile, Mozart’s Mass in C Major offers triumphant rejoice for festive occasions. Originally reserved for royal coronations and religious holidays, the piece is now regularly revived for annual celebrations both sacred and symphonic.

These two pieces, each grand yet produced almost exactly a century apart from one another, will be staged together for a truly unique concert experience.

The “Tragedy and Triumph” concert closes out a season of crowd favorites ranging from the fall’s Outdoor and Holiday Pops Concerts to Holst’s sounds of space with the annual Children’s Halloween Concert. The spring gave spotlight to the student musical talent at Fort Hays State University through its Arias and Concertos Concert. Now, the Hays Symphony invites the community to its gripping season finale of monumental masterpieces by Mozart and Tchaikovsky.

As far as finale concerts go, Director Buckstead expresses his sincerity that those in attendance will be moved by the symphony’s efforts. “Nothing beats the experience of live music, performed with passion by the wonderful members of our orchestra.”

Clifford The Big Red Dog and Smoky Hills PBS are coming to Hays

First Responder Appreciation event planned

TOPEKA –&nbsp;The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) has rescinded a boil water advisory for the City of Kensington public water supply system located in Smith County. The advisory was issued because of a line break resulting in a loss of pressure in the system.&nbsp; Failure to maintain adequate pressure may result in a loss of chlorine residuals and bacterial contamination.&nbsp;

Laboratory testing samples collected from the City of Kensington indicate no evidence of bacteriological contamination and all other conditions that placed the system at risk of contamination are deemed by KDHE officials to be resolved. &nbsp;

Public water suppliers in Kansas take all measures necessary to notify customers quickly after a system failure or shutdown. Regardless of whether it’s the supplier or KDHE that announces a boil water advisory, KDHE will issue the rescind order following testing at a certified laboratory.

The advisory was issued because of a line break resulting in a loss of pressure in the system.&nbsp; Failure to maintain adequate pressure may result in a loss of chlorine residuals and bacterial contamination.&nbsp;</p><p>Laboratory testing samples collected from the City of Kensington indicate no evidence of bacteriological contamination and all other conditions that placed the system at risk of contamination are deemed by KDHE officials to be resolved. &nbsp;</p><p>Public water suppliers in Kansas take all measures necessary to notify customers quickly after a system failure or shutdown. Boil Water Advisory rescinded for Kensington in Smith County

Did you know that approximately 666,500 youth up to 20 years old annually work on farms operated by persons other than their guardians? That 22,600 farm injuries occur to these youth each year, more than in any profession employing youth? And that 100 youth die each year in farming-related incidents.

In an effort to mitigate agricultural injuries and fatalities to young workers in agriculture. Several K-State Research &amp; Extension Districts will be offering a Hazardous Occupation Safety Training in Agriculture (HOSTA) or Tractor and Farm Safety Course for youth on Saturday, April 27th from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. It will be held at Hoxie Implement, 933 Oak Ave. Hoxie, Kansas. Many thanks to Outdoor Bank for providing the lunch and refreshments and to Thunder Linner Memorial Fund for helping sponsor the training manuals.

In a collaboration with businesses, state and county agencies. K-State Research &amp; Extension Agents will teach this course covering farm and machinery safety, including proper tractor operation and maintenance, grain safety, implement use safety, livestock safety and more. The United States Department of Labor requires youth 14 – 15 years of age attend this safety training in order to work on a farm for someone other than their parents, and in some instances even when working on the family farm.

Participants must complete some assignments before attending the training on the 27th. To obtain this information and to pay the $10 registration fee by Friday, April 19th. You will need to visit one of the following K-State Research &amp; Extension Offices – Twin Creeks 785-421-3411, Golden Prairie 785-673-4805, Phillips-Rooks 785-425-6851 and Cottonwood District 785-628-9430.

Some Extension Offices may provide transportation to the training, don’t delay and register by Friday, April 19th for the Tractor &amp; Farm Machinery Safety Course for youth 14 - 15 years of age to be held in Hoxie on Saturday, April 27th.

Sternberg Geoscience Club to host 'What's in Your Soil?' 

TOPEKA –&nbsp;The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) has issued a boil water advisory for the City of Kensington public water supply system located in Smith County.

Customers should observe the following precautions until further notice:

• Boil water for one minute prior to drinking or food preparation or use bottled water.<br>• Dispose of ice cubes and do not use ice from a household automatic icemaker.<br>• If your tap water appears dirty, flush the water lines by letting the water run until it clears.<br>• Disinfect dishes and other food contact surfaces by immersion for at least one minute in clean tap water that contains one teaspoon of unscented household bleach per gallon of water.<br>• Water used for bathing does not generally need to be boiled. Supervision of children is necessary while bathing so that water is not ingested. Persons with cuts or severe rashes may wish to consult their physicians.

The advisory took effect on April 9 and will remain in effect until the conditions that placed the system at risk of bacterial contamination are resolved.
